martinhutch - MemberWhich deserted wasteland was this hotel located in, where there was nowhere within walking distance/taxi ride/helicopter flight to get to an all-night curry house? Was it that hell hole, the south east of England?
That'll teach him to stay in Wensleydale.
Ha, that'll teach me to be cheeky!
Anyway, they should have come down here to South Wales. Better driving roads over the mountains, plenty of food places open all night, including Steak By Night, and you can guarantee a decent fight, if you want one. Should suit JC down to the ground.
That ultimately that was the job of the producers, to make the presenters feel good. As soon as you put them in anything other than a brilliantly good mood the whole show falls appart (even actors aren't perfect, let alone presenters), and that means everything has to be perfect,
LOL JC the Poor Diva.
Fluffing at the Beeb...
Cant help but feel that JC will be the only one who doesn't lose out through this.
This decision will put many jobs at risk (including the guy who got punched), the fans miss out, BBC will lose a shed load of cash which will impact on the licence payer...
and JC will sign a fat contract with Sky and make more money than ever....
tpbiker - Member[s]This decision[/s] Clarkson's gross misconduct will put many jobs at risk
Nah - Freelance Telly people just move with the job. They'll be fine.
Sky doesn't want him it has been reported.
He may find it more difficult than people elsewhere are suggesting to get another job in the light of the assault, especially if the South Yorks police decide to take the matter further. To be honest I would hope so, but in these days of 'celebrity culture' unfortunately I may be proved wrong.
I quite liked a lot of his work, on top form TG was great, for goodness sake even my mother liked watching their specials, but no one should act in this way to others in the workplace ( or out if it TBH)
The 'mystery' of why the Crime Correspondent at the Telegraph broke the story appears to have become clearer:
15.35 A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:
“North Yorkshire Police is liaising with the BBC regarding the alleged incident in North Yorkshire involving Jeremy Clarkson.
“We have asked the BBC for the report which details the findings of their internal investigation into the matter.
“The information will be assessed appropriately and action will be taken by North Yorkshire Police where necessary.
“It would not be appropriate for North Yorkshire Police to comment further at this time.”
South Yorks police decide to take the matter further
All the way to North Yorkshire?
Is that what Jeremy said?
Not enough swearing, abuse , racism or violence for it to be him
It was wee bit ranty from me though 😳
All the way to North Yorkshire?
We all look the same to them.
Clarkson's gross misconduct will put many jobs at risk
I don't disagree with that...but the facts remain, he'll be the only one to benefit.
I see Piers Morgan has been touted as a successor.....I would personally withhold my licence fee if that total twunt got the job.

Everyone who has ever been within a mile of Broadcasting House who isn't involved in Yewtree has been touted for the job. Not as many people as you'd think.
Anyone listening to 5Live?
A very well spoken lady just rang in, and said boys will be boys and are always fighting, so whats the problem?

Jivehoneyjive is vetting potential candidates as we speak.
Klunk - Memberwhy are you describing it as a fight ?
Ok, not a fight.
it is the case that Oisin Tymon offered no retaliation;it was an assault not a fight.
Ok, in that case a punch is an assault, throwing two punches is an assault, three punches is also also an assault ... so long as the person is not damaged etc ... JC should have done that. Yes, he might face law suit later when the victim claims trauma etc, I think he should push the limit of so called assault since the consequence would be the same. This happened at a work place so let it be the problem with two men. I would view it differently if say a man intentionally punches a woman in the face because he is in a bad mood.
Northwind - Member
So for exactly how long am I allowed to punch you before you call the police? Just purely out of curiosity.
You can punch me as long as you like only if I was stoopid enough to let you do so. No "slap in the right cheek, turn the left cheek ..." concept I am afraid. But I will not go over the top in terms of retaliation if that helps.
I need to comply with the bureaucratic rules you know.

If this end up with a person going to jail ... then no wonder the country is bankrupt with all the money spending on such minor issue.
I pay my tax not to feed people in prison just because s/he has a workplace punch up ... or one punch "assault".
However, having said that the bloke that threw a punch and consequently murdered/killed the other bloke with one punch (was on the news many months ago) I would view that differently. I would jail the murderer with food on half ration for the rest of his life.
I think they were referring to the forlorn hope that Piers Morgan will eventually do time for phone hacking.
It was wee bit ranty from me though

If it was Oisins job to sort the food, and he failed to do that, or inform the crew there was a problem with the food and they ought to pick up something on the way, then I can see why Clarkson might accuse him of not doing his job properly.
Except there WAS food on offer; soup and a cold meat platter (I think, I can't be arsed to google it), only JC wanted steak and chips. So basically, the producer, when the hotel closed the kitchen because of the 3 hour delay, made sure there was something to eat for people arriving. Everyone was in the same boat but JC verbally abused him and punched him.
Not enough swearing, abuse , trolling or arguing for it to be you
I still object to , and reject, trolling but guilty on the rest.
Im not be surprised sky doesnt want him, hes obviously a nightmare to work with, very expensive and possibly an alcoholic, infact i wouldnt be surprised if hes checking in to the Priory before long
As I said pages ago, Ive seen him a couple of times shambling round notting hill, chainsmoking, beergut hanging out of his untucked shirt and at 54 he looks at least ten if not 20 years older than that!

It really is quite funny, although in some ways inspiring, to see people trying to defend the indefensible for the sake of the one they love. I haven't laughed so much since the Uruguayans attempted to justify Suarez's eating habits.
🙂
At least Suarez's dinner was warm.
I find this thread fascinating. The last time I worked in the UK (as a teacher in a Leicester school), the (insert one racial type here) female head of science was punched in the face by a strong (insert another racial type here) male student. Nothing happened. One of the things that led to me walking out of the place as I wasn't sure I could be as strong willed as Oisin if the thug or one of his gang had got beyond pushing me around and actually thumped me (they'd threatened to burn my T2 in the school car park which seemed entirely plausible as there was already a burnt out car there).
My life got so much better so quickly after that I'd pour thanks on the thug if I met him today. However, if I met the headmaster I'd have to stuff my fingers in my ears and run before he had a chance to speak.
it is the case that Oisin Tymon offered no retaliation
Bravo Oisin. A pity teachers don't get looked after like TV producers.
Can someone explain to me why BBC 3 has been showing Top Gear repeats, yet the BBC haven't managed to coble together the last few episodes? What's the difference? Clarkson is still on the TV*, which is why they pulled the new episode? Doesn't make sense to me.
*although a lot younger, less fat and less wrinkly.
Very insightful interviews with Alan Yentob just now on R4.
Covered a lot of ground.
Unaired episodes to be shown.
JC highly valued as an 'alternative voice'.
And a whole load of interesting subtext.
EDIT - Which is now being discussed.
Worth a listen.
Continuing on PM.
Just do your **** job without having your ego stroked and your every [ irrational] whim and rider list catered for.
Why do they need to do this?
Cant the talent not act like dicks?
I think that was the point, they'd probably hoped for an argument, or some for and against points, but all they got was an agreement that in the context of producing a TV show nothing really works unless the presenter is happy to be there. It all very well saying "he's paid £1,000,000's to be there, he should do his job", he will regardless of his mood. It's getting them to do it without coming across as forced and scripted that requires them to be in a good mood.
And as a result, when something isn't right it rapidly becomes a big deal.
As an example one of the presenters they were interviewing said the only person they could take criticism from (and was prepared to give it) was the cameraman. If the producers did it then it came accross as having a go at them and they just got more moody and things spiralled downwards. Everyone on set knew that the aim was to produce a good TV show, and that meant the 'tallent' had to do good job, and they weren't going to do a good job if they weren't in the right mood. The 'tallent' weren't (normally) diva'ish.
Clarkson was 100% in the wrong, and should have been fired. But the producer really should have sorted some food out.
Really? Clarkson couldn't have sorted it out himself? What was he too busy doing? It certainly wasn't chowing down at the food that HAD been laid on, was it.
But the producer really should have sorted some food out.
He did, food I'd have been delighted with at that time of night when most people are in bed.
Couldn't they just have had a proper fight and sorted it out, then just got back to work? - like a decent playground scrap at school. Job done.
It's getting them to do it without coming across as forced and scripted that requires them to be in a good mood.
Dont we all pretend to be in a good mood at work and act like we GAS even when we dont?
there was food just not what he wanted

oh it's a "one punch "assault"" now
I am saying that if you throw a punch it is considered an assault so why not keep going for the maximum because the outcome would be the same anyway?
the physical attack lasted around 30 seconds and was halted by the intervention of a witness;I'll go with 60 punch assault then.
Well the consequence is the same so JC should have maximised his punches ...
aracer - Memberchewkw - you do realise that Jezza is mates with the ZMs (and possibly one himself)?
They all are. They all are. Especially if a person has celebrity status.
What annoy the hell out of me is that I like the programme. Yes, he is a faulty character but at least he does not pretend to be someone he is not.
As it is there are not many good programmes around that one can relax to watch during Sunday time to be honest.
With the increasing TV license fees surely there must be some programmes that are worth "boy racer" watching?
Well, the answer is in every other TG thread on here; there's always "I'm the Midwife" on Beeb One.
If they're saying contract not to be renewed that suggests he'll be allowed to finish the last 2 episodes.
Anyhow he's gone. First Armstrong, now Clarkson I've only got three voodoo dolls left; Blair, Bono and Ségo.
Right.
International Pro-Celebity Wheeler Dealers with Mike 'n' Ed?
They do the usual, but then sell the cars to the contestants of Celebrity Masterchef and Strictly, who then go onto an episode of Only Connect to determine who has first lap of the test track.
Presented by Brian Cant, Moira Stuart and Professor Heinz Wolff.
'Tonight, Charlotte Church replaces the sills on a slightly ropey rubber-bumper MGB'.

Really? He doesn't come over on TG as the kind of person who would go round abusing and assaulting the people who work for him, and yet that's what he does.
and I thought his fans always told us he's not really a boorish oaf who says racist things, that's just a character he plays. I'm confused 😕

Well, perhaps on that day he had short fuse who knows after a "hard day" work and just expressed himself accordingly in celebrity tantrum/assault ... if that is not being honest to himself I don't know what is. Perhaps, the producer(s) had been slowly winding him up knowing that one day JC would break ...
Thank god that's done.
Can we stop talking about it now? 😉

You have it completely ass backwards. A professional presenter is someone who can stand around in miserable conditions, deal with constant delays, set backs and issues and when someone says action they put it all aside and deliver their piece to camera without showing frustration or being a dick about it.
Not someone who needs constantly tended to or someone who needs their ego massaged so they can be in a good mood.
Actor, presenter, musician, they're just performers. If they can't perform then they aren't doing their job.
Clarkson was 100% in the wrong, and should have been fired. But the producer really should have sorted some food out.

Interesting that the producer took himself to A&E for a bruised lip - looks like he was preparing to have a go at Clarkson.
OH and can we not blame the victim either?
No wonder the NHS is bankrupt....... Seriously, i think they probably have better things to do than "fix bruised lips" of people stupid enough to get themselves into poxy handbagging "fights" (and i use the word "fights" in the losest possible sense of the word........
Well according to the 6 O'clock news the Yorkshire/North Yorkshire police is now interested in the case.

I think they trying to deal with problems that already happened that created so many victims yet they are still enjoying their parasitic status as law enforcer. Some of them are not fit to do their job and should be made redundant to add to the unemployment statistic.

perhaps you could be on the door and send folk home with the instruction to toughen up princess?..
Its not bankrupt and he did not get into the fight, he was the victim of it 🙄
The mind boggles at this whole episode. What a load of tosh all round - has the world come to this???
Not condoning JC's behaviour but really, a guy is a dick, gets nowty, sounds off and there is a minor bit of handbags. The victim makes no complaint but goes to hospital (????) because of a swollen and bleeding lip. Well bugger me (not literally)......shades of Hugh Grant and Colin Firth having a fight (sic) in Bridget Jones.
And then in the world of 24 hours news, this becomes....
"Verbal abuse sustained over a long(er period." - blimey, and to think they televise sport on a weekly basis where this is part and parcel of the fun. What's "sustained"....days, weeks, months...?
But what? it contained "the strongest expletives" no less!!! How horrific can this story become.
"A physical assault lasting......wait for it....30 seconds"
An "attack" - where are Goose and Mav when you need them?
Blimey the hyperbole meter must have been pinging in the news editing room.
What happens when we need to report real abuse and assault? What vocab and hyperbole for that? Surely we will have run out?
What a total croc....
why not hire him then seeing as he is free and what do you mean by "real assault and abuse"?
A [s]physical assault[/s]rape or mugging or robbery lasting......wait for it....30 seconds"
I am not sure why you think 30 seconds of assault where he had to be dragged off by a witness is something trivial.....what if it was [ no offence meant] your wife who received this at work?
Dont you [chewkw] ever get tired of talking such complete rubbish all the time?
Well, evidence so far is "no".
Tony Hall's gravitas was very comforting and the sincerity of his "regret" was palpable. He must be very proud of his own moment on TV.
So how would "real" verbal abuse and "real" assualt be different?
The victim makes no complaint
As has been pointed out numerous times in this thread, such is the life of an AP, that they are often afraid to make a complaint. I suppose we should never investigate anything unless the victim complains.
a fight
It wasn't a fight, or are you privy to new information?
But what? it contained "the strongest expletives"
Reported to have contained references to his nationality. Can you imagine that kind of bigotry from your Sunday night poster boy? I know, crazy isn't it?
Blimey the hyperbole meter must have been pinging in the news editing room.
It's pinging right there in your post. This is hardly outrageous, but y'know, the country's favourite bigot's been caught out being an arse. If you don't want to hear it discussed, then follow the advice given here every Sunday evening.
What happens when we need to report real abuse and assault?
Well, by your own standards, we have to wait for the victim to do it.
What a total croc....

Excellent summary.
Thank you. I thought so too.
Edit: DD no need to personalise it (no really) as both sides are as bad. May is calling the news a "tragedy".
Yes a real, tragedy.....get a bloody grip.
"A physical assault lasting......wait for it....30 seconds"
What a bizarre comment, a tremendous amount of damage can be done to someone in 30 seconds.
And I suspect that 30 seconds of hitting someone is as much as a middle-aged unfit overweight smoker can manage.
Indeed it can Ernie, indeed it can, and in this case as tremendous as a swollen lip. Truly shocking. Hold the front pages.
That depends.
Must be hard work though this act. Careful you dont get stressed and attack a minion.
A single punch that can kill takes less than a second, so to say that assaulting someone for 30 seconds is trivial is slightly hilarious.
The fat, ugly racist prick got what he deserved.
Indeed it can Ernie, indeed it can, and in this case as tremendous as a swollen lip. Truly shocking. Hold the front pages.
It's the thought that counts.
Indeed it can Ernie, indeed it can,
So why did you say "lasting......wait for it....30 seconds" then? 🙄
BBC3 now...another 2009 episode...watch the difference to a later episode
