Is it that hard to just write the name?

Former Friends star Matt LeBlanc is be one of the new presenters of Top Gear when the motoring programme returns to BBC Two in May.

But then how can the show take the pi55 out of the Germans and Americans - or is that old school, and this new version will be all politically correct ?

There's an American Top Gear?!?

I would love to see this beaut make it around a track!

EDIT: Irony lost. Didn't realise you would have all known this p.o.s. from Breaking Bad.

Maybe as the cars become driverless they should do away with the presenters as well.

Hmm, not sure about this. I like Matt le Blanc in Friends and Actors, but when interviewed he seems about as charismatic as a plank. It'll be interesting to see which way he goes when presenting.

I'm hoping for Ronnie in "Star in a reasonably priced car". I think he'll do well providing he stays on his feet.

So what you're saying is that when he's doing his job as a professional actor he's very good at it, but when he's not.....he's not. How does this worry you again?

It worries me because I believe presenting and acting require a different set of skills. I can't imagine Chris Evans, Clarkson, May or Hammond being able to act for instance. Happy to be proved wrong, but I'd bet Clarkson would be in the Jeff Goldblum school of [s]typecasting[/s] acting.

I'm all up for that.

Was hoping Cheggers was going to get the job though.

Because he's being asked to do something other than act, something that requires personality, and from what I've seen he appears to have a deficit of it.

Yeah, I guess there are no transferable skills between acting and presenting. It's not as if there's any kind of precedent for this type of thing.

Anything that makes it different to the tired format that the 3 stooges were turning out in the last couple of years. Yes I still watched it for the odd good bit but they got rarer as time went by.

Think there's still another announcement or 2 to come, Evans will keep the pr machine whirring until the first show airs.

1. How many million people are there in the UK?

2. Are those "talent scouts" at BBC so stooopid that they cannot give opportunity to fresh talents?

3. Are British people so short of talent they have to choose Chris Evans?

4. Apparently Chris Evans has a wealth of £60 million and yet BBC still want to give him more?

5. So BBC is trying to do the right thing ya? Give the millionaire more millions please ... how stooopid can you get?

I think a lot of people think Matt LeBlanc will be Joey on Top Gear, but as mentioned above, I've seen him interviewed a few times and he seemed boring and a bit prickly.

It does illustrate how the BBC is just like every commercial broadcaster, get in some big names and hopefully they will sell it - it seems to have lost its confidence in it creativity - the big question is how good will the scripts be - these were written by Clarkson in the past.

Does that mean BBC have to plagiarise Clarkson?

Or does that mean BBC have to pay for the rights to use Clarkson's ideas or "intellectual property"?

I fear that the Beeb and the team may begin to take TG seriously when the whole point of the programme was to take the oiss out of itself and others

It gradually changed into piss-take top gear over many, many years. Evans has already said that he's not planning on continuing the Clarkson era format, so it could even turn back into a show about cars!
