According to the article, it is to prevent steroid users getting moobs etc

"Letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor that is used mainly to block estrogen and slow the progression of breast cancer, is also abused by people who use anabolic steroids and want to block feminizing effects or to boost testosterone production by preventing its breakdown"

It's not really turning anyone into superman. However, if you're hitting the regular steroids and growth hormones that do, then those are well known for upping your oestrogens and lowering your testosterone giving you breast formation and infertility. Hence the dopers take Letrozole alongside the performance enhancers to mitigate the downsides.

USADA; In addition, male athletes may use abuse aromatase inhibitors like letrozole to boost their own natural levels of testosterone by preventing its breakdown.

Either way it’s dodgy as **** in a male cyclist!

Do they have a proforma statement ready? Sure that line about “my world has been turned upside down, the letter no athlete wants to receive “ has been used before

I hope he's kept some samples of whatever supplements he's been taking. Because otherwise it's going to be a challenge to rule out the obvious explanation.

Letrozole is not listed at the moment. Professionals pay a lot of money for tested supplements.

I believe it’s contaminated soup and tortellini for letrozole rather than meat.

I've heard worse 😉

Whilst Contador's defence may have sounded shady, the truth is that it failed because he could not supply samples of the consumed beef to prove contamination, not that it was far-fetched.

Why do people take supplements, instead of eating whole foods?

It's not like his performances have been that great either.

The thing I find odd in this case (and a couple of others) is that the substance is banned, but probably wouldn't do much good on its own - in this case it's designed to counteract the effect of steroids AFAICT. So why hasn't he tested positive for those?

Shame he is not under 16. They would let him carry on ...

So why hasn’t he tested positive for those?

Nefarious: endogenous testosterone levels raised.
Non-nefarious: inadvertent ingestion from a contaminated source.
