My garage tidy up continues and I'm after a tool chest and cabinet to get rid of the three tool boxes I've got. I don't want to spend much more than £300.

I like the look of both of these, similar spec, same price. Any other recommendations?

Wait for halfords to put them on sale at 200 quid is the cheapest way.

Also check measurements when comparing products, some of the cheaper tool cabinets are cheap because they're tiny!

The Halfords ones are good, especially the industrial ones.
If you sign up to Halfords news letter they tend to have a flash "10% off" online sale every month, normally for a slot midweek 10-2pm or some such time!

Costco worth a look if you have one near you and know a member.

You can pick up fairly decent uspro tools ones for about £100 new on ebay. Ball bearing drawers and rubber mats to protect the bottom of the drawers. I got one, was £95, arrived with a bash on it but was given £25 back as a sweetener or the option to return it.

Just had a look in halfords and yes the 'industra' version feels much better quality, this one. Guess I'll spend a bit more but I'll wait for an offer.

Gary i wouldn be too worried about getting industrials for home garage use. Infact i found the latch irritating and no mid box availible.

That us pro box is a shoe box in comparison.

They do some good stuff uspro but that isnt one of them.

Ive got a full stack of halfords pro lower and mid and a sealey tools top box. You wont trash them in your garage. I dare say im a heavy user.

My top tips for halfords is- dont accept the display model and check the tool box for damage before leaving the store.

The homak ones in costco are mint for home use - comperable to the halfords pro in construction but are massive footprint although 48inch drawers are ace.

That SGS model looks like very good value.
It's pretty much the same item that I paid £450 for at Machine Mart a few years back, so although the claimed price reduction is an exaggeration, it's still a few hundred pounds cheaper than most other places.

I definitely recommend that top section with the smaller drawers.

The Halfords industrial one is a fair bit deeper which would be ore useful.

SGS for the win.
Their wee cheap portable trolleys drawer units are also good. They are cheap and the drawer retainer is poor and trolley handle is light but you canny complain for 50 or 60 quid. Load it sensibly and it will survive.

I tried to get the Halfords ones but they had all been overstacked and Bent in their boxes x2! Most of the stock in the store seemed to be damaged in a similar way. Gave up and needed refund which Halfords provided no problem.

Just an update on this. An offer came up on Thursday for halfords industrial bottom roll cab, top chest and 170 piece socket set for £399. When I ordered halfords had a '10% off everything' offer on taking it down to £360, I joined British cycling to get another 10% off, I can buy halfords vouchers with 10% through my employee benefits so took the cost down to £292.

I'm really pleased with them, quality is great, guys in store loaded them in the car while I was paying.

Couple of points
- stickers are easy to remove after a blast with a hairdryer and a wipe over with sticky stuff remover
- the lid on the top box doesn't need to be open to open the drawers if you don't lock it. Open lid, open drawers, shut lid, then drawers open and close without the lid being open.

I was planning on selling the socket set on eBay because I don't really need it but I've decided to keep it and sell my current one.

I'll get my tools in it today and if need be I'll add the middle box.
