Not cheap either....
Tip for you all, get POA sorted!
Don't envy you. Process looks a tad complicated.
A lot of people think you have to wait for dementia to set in before applying for POA, but the whole point is to get it in place before mental capacity is lost. You don't immediately have to take over that person's affairs.
We were lucky the GP signed the mother in law off as of sound mind when she wasnt really. Saved a lot of hassle for the family. Good luck getti g everything sorted.
Good Luck.
We got POA for MIL after FIL dies quite quickly from Lung Cancer (heavy smoker but no signs until Stage 4). MIL didn't do any finances, so we had to get POA to sort everything out, uncluding benefits etc. Worth doing as it's a PITA. Still can be when you've got it - copying and sending documents.
Sympathies to the OP. Also a bump for sorting POA before it's an issue
Not sure of the circumstances but are you absolutely sure it’s too late to get an LPA? Capacity to consent can be enhanced by careful and supportive interviewing in the right environment and taking time by someone who knows what they are doing, especially in dementia.
We do it regularly at work. It is a long, slow, pedantic process. You need to set aside around £2.5k for the initial costs. Annual costs are anywhere between £250 and £1000. Depending on level of supervision that the court deems necessary. Expect the whole process to take 6-9 months.
if you need more help email is in profile.
+1 for fibbing in order to get the POA.
Remember that POA for health is a separate process for POA for finances and is also worth doing.
NJA, really 😳 I had a quick guess of 1.5k... Jeez. I'll msg you cheers.
99. 9% sure it's too late to get POA but will check, aware of both types ta.
Have messaged you NJA thanks.
If anyone else has experience of this it would be of great help if you can msg me cheers.
The local authorities typically use these .. The Friendly Trust
We refer to them, and they sort it all out.
I wasn`t aware it was as expensive as suggested here.
Thanks mooman, I'll have a look.
