Actor not tall enough to play a fictional character.

Actor not tall enough to play a really powerful character whose size is a major part of the stories.

I think the last line is most important.

Movies werent making enough to keep the franchise going so the studio binned it off.

Now looking for tv/streaming instead but Cruise would be way to expensive. Therefore remember that he doesnt match the character and go and find someone cheaper.

Yes. Of course you are Tom

He is also an actual samurai and his dad can beat up Chuck Norris. 😂

Has anyone read any of the books? I downloaded an audio book last time I had a decent drive of a few hours. It was as if written by a 14yr old who had just watched too many Arnold Schwarzenegger films.

As long as they start with Killing Floor and find an actor who’s burly enough I’ll be watching. They should have used false perspective with Cruise, like in LotR

Has anyone read any of the books?

Read most of them. They are top fun. He’s basically a super hero who gains whatever powers are needed for the task at hand. Child isn’t a bad writer and the majority of them are well plotted.

The movies would have tanked without Cruise starring, they should’ve gone straight to TV in the first place. How many 6’ 5” A-list actors are there? Sub Dan Brown nonsense anyway 😂

Way better than Dan Brown. They’re books about a giant freak beating people up. Top mindless fun. What’s not to like. You can still read Kafka and Dickens too 😉

It'll be the guy who played Takeshi from altered carbon (Joel kinnaman). Probably....

I read the Killing Floor. Complete and utter nonsense.

However, nowhere near as bad as Dan Brown.

Sounds about right

He’s basically a super hero who gains whatever powers are needed for the task at hand

This is a more positive view!

I found the book I tried unreadable tosh but I can see why people might like them. I thought the films were OK but even with only half a Reacher book behind me the size disparity between Cruise and the written character was a bit jarring, Childs does go on and on about how big the bloke is. Arme Hammer would be a decent call for a series if he's in budget.

The title of the most recent Reacher movie sums up how you subsequently feel about watching another one.

only relevant to those that read the books or care. I liked the movies, Cruise worked well with the script and story.

Cruise would be too expensive for a streaming series although you have the rock in ballers.

I actually quite like the first Jack Reacher movie, I think Tom Cruise really adds something to it with his acting abilities.

Bruce Willis is shorter than me i.e. < 5'7" ( I held the door open for him once).

Sylvester Stallone even shorter.

Both too old now as well.

Big and hard.

I expect all that fist action gives him throbbing veins too.

A friend is a fan of the books, dragged a bunch of us along to see the movie. It was ok, but would have been better with a big guy playing Jack Reacher.

Joe Manganiello maybe.

Or The Hound

Or Hodor

You left out Khal Drogo and The Mountain. Eddie Hall's been on a diet, too.

I wasn't sure if The Mountain can do speaking roles, but he does have physical presence.

I think any of the above options would have meant an entirely different movie being made, maybe more like Commando where Arnie does away with a small army after rowing in wearing a speedo... with Cruise portraying Reacher cos of his height you learnt as it went on he was tough and a good fighter as opposed to assuming it as he was a big guy muscly guy.

Eddie Hall in a Hollywood action movie would be AMAZING. Only if he kept his proper accent though. 😂

Reacher is described as 6ft 5in tall with hands the size of dinner plates.

Anyone got Peter Crouch's agent's number?

I think an unknown actor would be better. My favourite bit from all the books I’ve read is when he gets shot in the chest and survives because his pectorals are just sooo big. The books are brilliant if you go in knowing that they are basically 80’s action films in written form.

I'd describe them as the author's **** fantasies in book form. Well, the one I read anyway 😆

Writer was on radio yesterday evening and suggested that the character in his head looks like Lawrence Delaglio (or however you spell it)

You mean you didn't know this from the start of the film? He's such a good actor, Tom Cruise. 🙂

I spotted him on the roof of Backfriars Station when he was doing his MI stunt last winter. ( I was walking across Blackfriars Bridge.) Even from the distance it was obvious he was properly short.

The movies would have tanked without Cruise

That's so completely utterly untrue. There are legions of Reacher fans who would have flocked to the movie even (especially?) if the lead was a complete unknown.

Child played and absolute howler when he cast Cruise. Opportunity missed.
