From a Fire Service survey on home smoke alarms:
A man who keeps his in a drawer indoors but takes it outside with him when he leaves the house for a smoke.
Someone who won't have one because they don't match the pine furniture.
Another who won't have one in case it frightens the cat.
Top Of The Pops - a woman who keeps hers in a cupboard "to stop the smke getting to it".
They don't seem to be that affected by cigarette smoke. Flipping annoying when they go off when you're doing a bit of cooking and the frying pan gets a bit hot though.
I had one go off cos it was faulty; just kept on with this ear-splitting noise. Was wired tot he mains so coon't just take the battery out. Smashed it with a hammer. That taught it!
