Booking a sunday roast in a pub.
Was asked if we wanted to eat indoors or outside.
Indoors ,obviously. Then I thought I'd better check with everyone else. A resounding "indoors ,obviously"
Everyone I've asked since then have been "indoors, obviously".
I just could not imagine or certainly enjoy eating a roast dinner outdoors.
Roast chicken ,salad potatoes and leaf, no problem but a full on roast..No.
Are you an inny or an outy?

I wouldn't order a roast outside. But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't choose to sit outside for Sunday lunch today. I just wouldn't order the roast.

Indoors, obviously.

At a stretch I would agree to semi-outdoors. Conservatory or a large gazebo. Just needs more closed sides than open.

Off out soon for one, it’s scorching here and will be hotter where we are heading. Would love it if we have an option to sit outside.

Roasts are very confusing to the Spanish, a woman I know who's daughters boyfriend works in a restaurant that's kinda Spanish but caters for brits abroad too...

They didn't know what all the ingredients should be.

I explained it's a liitle bit like paella in that it's not a fixed thing, different people do it differently depending on prefence and what ingredients are handy.

That was easy enough but they just couldn't get thier heads around why you'd have more than one type of carb in the same dish, as in, mash and roasties.

Roast dinners are off the menu in our house until the heating has to be put on! 😀

And without starting another thread - when eating out now where the bloody hell has all the veg gone!? 🤔

Ate out the other week and there were 3 tiny bits of broccoli on the plate - every pub now seems to think it’s going for a Michelin Star. There was a time when a decent bowl of mixed veg was bought out with every meal.

I’m ordering a meal not an Insta photo!!

…and roasties and mash on the same plate is perfectly fine. 😀

Our local does a blooming good roast. Massive yorkie, proper slab of veg to share, pots cooked in goose fat and enough beef or lamb to encourage a post lunch nap.  We make our own loads in winter (although never as good if 'kids' are at home as both gluten intolerant) but do like a long pub lunch and leave the washing up to someone else tho.

Not outside. I mean, that's just wrong. And not normally in summer. This summer however...

There’s plenty of Valencians  that will take issue with that.

Ill happily eat roasts outside just to give the people inside something to talk/moan about!

Roasts are for all year round (having a gammon one today)

Stews however are a winter thing for me

…there’s always one wrong ‘un! 🤣🤣

Gammon + Fried Eggs + Chips + Garden Peas - that’s the law. If you’re some sort of deviant you may have pineapple on the Gammon!

Gravy wasps are a thing round here

Once did a goose in a fire one Christmas, sat around outside tucking in to hot roast meat and baked veg. Glass of red. Kin awesome

So yes to outside but not before autumnal equinox

You’ve been to some shit pubs.

Wasn’t an option to eat outside but had a delicious roast pork dinner.

Roasts are definitely an indoor meal. And roasts, and fish and chips, are great at a decent pub.

MrsMC is a "roast dinner every Sunday" kind of gal - partly a throw back to her childhood and her now gone parents. When she's away, we never have one.

Occasionally she says "would anyone mind if we didn’t have a roast this weekend?" and the kids fall over themselves to agree

This. Though once the heating is back on, Sunday roasts are then compulsory, obviously.

Who the hell wants to eat a roast dinner, sat indoors in summer? What kind of insanity is that? That’s like sitting outside and eating a salad in January

Gravy wasps are a thing round here

I think they did a session for Marc Riley on 6 Music last week

The only time we ever really have a roast is at a typical ex-pat restaurant near the coast about a hour south of Benidorm. Lovely roast it is, too, and yes, we eat it outdoors. Quite an odd experience, as I don't usually visit the British enclaves - we go there and my wife is the only Spanish person in the place...

I explained it’s a liitle bit like paella in that it’s not a fixed thing, different people do it differently depending on prefence and what ingredients are handy.

Not sure about that, though. There's a seafood paella, and an inland one with chicken/rabbit/snails (optional). Both have pretty standard ingredients, and FWIW neither include chorizo.

There’s plenty of Valencians  that will take issue with that.

They'll have to take up that argument with the Andalucians then 😀

I've no skin in this game... I was just trying to illustrate that it's more of a 'fusion' dish rather than a mandatory list of ingredients.

A bit like a British roast, or even a curry.

I mean, assuming were all british we can't even agree whether a Sunday roast should only be limited to one type of carbohydrates on the same plate 😀

Oh and Chorizo has no place in a Paella.

GET IN THE SEA.

That's a bit like someone from Hull telling a Cornishman what should go into a Cornish pasty.

Paella is like pizza, in that there probably is an original single dish with very specific ingredients (rice, rabbit, snails and beans IIRC) but as it's spread it's morphed into myriad regional variations with the same name.

I remember once eating a roast outside at a Toby carvery whilst my mate told me about how his marriage was falling apart. Many parts of that scenario are bad.

Roasts all year round, outside if the weather is nice. Why wouldn't you?

I don't mean I eat them all year round, they are an occasional treat (like a full fry up), but if I fancy one, why would I need to check the calendar?

Sounds to me like one of those weirdos who likes cheese with fruit in.

Once I’m in charge (not long now comrades) putting fruit in cheese will lead to a trial for crimes against cheese with a maximum term of life imprisonment

Just had roast chicken with beef gravy and mint sauce.
Was lovely. The best bit was I didn’t have to cook it for once.

Indoors.
