My five year old to day finally learned to ride.

I bought her a heavily discounted bike from Toys R' Us when it was closing down which she found too heavy and difficult to pedal with stabilizers on so she quickly lost interest.
I think her friends have started to ride so its rekindled her interest. We tried again with her bike but got nowhere fast. I managed to pick-up a secondhand Isla Cnoc and we tried again and what a difference it has made. She had been using it in the garden as a balance bike but today was the first proper outing with the pedals on. I have one very tired but happy girl.

Yeah I’m so thrilled for her as she is really timid and I thought she was a while off. She’s been pestering me this evening when we can go out again. Excellent. 😆

One down, two more to go.

Yeah got my 5 year old off training wheels a couple of months back. Awesome feeling.

Worst bit was the holding onto the saddle while she picked up confidence - not great for my back. But that moment when you let go, they don't realise, and you shout "you're doing it!" and their little faces beam.

Priceless. (apart from the fact both Wee Ms Aphex and Aphex Jnr now want new bikes!)

Best thing I ever did was buying my two frog bikes. Both transitioned from balance bikes within 10 mins.

Their friends on cheaper bikes struggled a lot more or were later learning.

Definitely a great day and another day today I suspect. Enjoy!

That’s awesome ! We had same with my daughter, she’d been zooming around on the Cnoc as a balance bike, she was quite little so it had the rothan seat on it so she could get on 😂 We we’re away in the Motorhome and she saw kids pedalling past so wanted her pedals on. I put them on and turned round to put the tools away, turned back and she had pedalled off ! That was 3 years ago and she’s a bike nut now at 7-bikepacking next apparently 👍

My 3yo daughter has came on loads on her balance bike during lockdown, the quiet roads outside the house being used most days.

Got her a Frog 43, which is a little too big but she loves pedaling it while I run hunched over holding on to the saddle.

That high 5 on the OPs vid is awesome. 😎

It’s great isn’t it? I’m at the other end of your journey - my youngest (of three) was confident enough to ride out with the rest of us today - in turn the first time my wife has ridden in 11 years since the 1st was born! Suddenly a world of opportunity for riding as a family has opened up! (It was only about 5 miles but you’ve got to start somewhere)!

Mine had a Halfords fireman bike and showed no interest at all in cycling till he was 5.
He was freakish on a scooter though... probably a sign of things to come as he gravitated to "DH scootering". He just came home one day shortly after starting school and asked if he could have a proper bike if he could ride the 12" wheel bike without stabilisers... It took me longer to get the rusted things off .. he then jumped on, rode to the end of the cul-de-sac and came back...

I was pleased as punch not knowing what this was going to cost.... Best 4 yrs ever until he got to the point of not wanting to ride with me/ me not able to keep up or clear the gaps 🙁

Make the most of this window...

Fabulous! It's such as great feeling! I got my 4+ year old into her pedal bike just after Christmas after advice here, be and she loves it. Younger sister then felt the balance bike lacked something and was so keen to follow her sister onto pedals so another proud moment followed as soon as she could stand over the cnoc. Great bikes. The elder sister is on an early rider which I'd say is better, light bikes helped I'm sure.

Awesome, dad and daughter in perfect harmony, make the most of it. 🤣
We need more of this kind of thing, it appears many are embarrassed to talk about their kids on here, must be the fallout from mememe syndrome.

Great job!

I've got being able to swim and ride a pedal bike as this summer holiday's goals!

Always reminds me of the gag: my next door neighbour really hacked me off so I taught his boy to ride a bike. He'll never get that back.

Well done, again. Double well done for splashing the cash on the bike as well!

My 5yo learned a few weeks back. Got her first bike related graze yesterday lol. She's fine with it. Gaining confidence everyday. Like someone said previously it can kill your back for those first few sessions where you have to hold the saddle to get them going lol.

Number 2 (2 years) is getting into her balance bike. Think it's because big sister is loving her bike and wants in on the action. Fine with me 🙂

My lad has been riding on and off for about a year, but still preferring to ride his balance bike. Today however it all clicked, and he found the joy of his pedal bike. I was well chuffed, big grins all around...
