Its been a little dark here recently, but sometimes you have good days, and things just work to a success.... right?

I started with a plan to tidy the garden and before I knew it the momentum had lead me to cut all the shrubbery right back, mow and edge the lawn over several hours. I then thought I'd quickly and sustainably wash my car with the now accessible water from the water butts (full), which turned into a full valet :). While I had the leather cleaner out, I popped indoors and cleaned the sofa also.

A quick pause for some lunch, then I replaced 3 blown garden lights with LED replacement bulbs, fixed some guttering, sorted and tidied various plant pots and went through the mancave consolidating boxes of stuff and recycling the excess cardboard. Amazon arrived, so that resulting in changing the filters and bag on the vacuum cleaner - I hoovered the hallway to test it. A quick change then for 45 mins on the Turbo, dinner with the family after which I made some chopped fruit with vanilla yoghurt for a snack later, and I've just changed the duvet covers.

It feels quite cathartic to write that all down*, its great to have an enjoyably productive bank holiday.

Anyone else?

*My apologies if it bores you, which I suspect it most likely does!

I find my most useful diy times during nights where sleep is not on the cards.

Have built many a bike etc overnight without even a stand just on bed like 😉

That thread title made me instantly think of Klingons...

😆

Just over three hours since I got back from a short ride and still feeling absolutely drained, but happy in the knowledge it's my first proper workout since my Covid/flu thing that began just over a month ago and left my legs in tatters.

Good effort Kryters! If this floats your boat you could have a whale of time at my house if you're ever passing through SE Wales.

Had loads of stuff planned to do today but all I've achieved is to break one of my RC cars and procrastinate the rest of the day away.

Haven't had a day like you describe in years!

Small victories eh!

I got everything ready to make concrete to pour into the vertical reinforcing of my extension then looked at the sky and it looked black. A check of the weather radar said I had enough time for a swim before the deluge. Tomorrow is another day.

Nice one, I have a ton to catch up on, but we’re away and I rode a chunk of Hadrian’s Cycleway instead, which has done a good bit of decluttering between my ears.

Had an off on the road bike yesterday. Gaized knee, two graized elbows, graized lip and chin (headbutted the road - helmet on) and a deep cut to my left forearm.

The good news, there was no damage to my best bike - handbuilt Columbus SLX with full Dura Ace 7400 - couple of marks to the hood rubber. Phew.

Unfortunately the deep cut might keep me off. Hydrocolloid dressing on.

Decent effort but I think I still prefer Ice Cube’s original lyrics.

Unfortunately I've spent three day coughing, spluttering and sweating like a fishmongers window. Test says not, but it feels like covid-lite. 🙁

I enjoyed reading it! Positive stories have been far too scarce for far too long. Thanks for posting!

Today started with a hotel breakfast, followed by a 3 hour drive home from Coniston. Popped into Booths for some food on the way back, then an hour practice on the guitar. Bite to eat then 3 hours band practice on the drums - first session in about a month and we can all more or less remember the set. New songs need a little more work. No more practices for a month due to holidays, but we do have two gigs in the space of a weekend mid September. If you’re in York or Northwich on 17th or 18th September come along & catch The Allergics live

Today was a good day because I somehow managed to get my partner and her estranged son together. He brought the grandkids around, first time in 3 years, and we had a great time braaing with 2 lots of grandkids. Wounds are healing

We have some curved steps leading down to the garden and three of them were loose.
So took them up and re bedded them down, pointed the half inch morter joints between them ,Packed away tools and went out with family.
Returned to find that I had only repointed five out of the six joints.

Fantastic, I love days like that. My biggest problem in a day off with jobs is to sit down and not get up again. Get going early is a good plan.
And you didn’t even need to use the AK(47) which is also a bonus.

Started out with just going to wash my bike. Which turned int a a wheels off, chain off, semi-service. Daughter appeared and joined me in the garden for a natter and then wife came back from doing some errands and also sat in the garden. We nattered, drank tea/coffee, and I fixed/washed my bike*

*along with the usual helpful comments..."You missd a bit" etc etc.

It was lovely.

Me too, sorted out 2 long term storage dilemmas as well as fixed a load of stuff. Particularly pleased with the garage, everything is now off the floor again and my big power tools are in a much more sensible place. I'm like you often the most productive days just happen, if I plan too much it doesnt work.

3 day week for me as well, got a long weekend in London this weekend being a tourist and seeing my daughter dance Saddlers Wells theatre which is pretty special.

Boring as sin to the outside observer but I can appreciate. We all need a day like that sometimes, I'm hoping to get one in today myself. Have several bikes needing either worked on or dismantled in varying states between the two and need to get it done. Some of them are staying, some are going but it needs to happen because they're just becoming a headache.

Spent yesterday moving the big pile of turf in the picture below into the shed behind it. Hard work but strangely enjoyable, currently on a sunny beach and will do some chainsaw gardening when I get home later

I had a useful extended lunch break a few months ago. Wife was nagging me to paint MIL's garage door surround, and the side door, I found some half used paint, whizzed round, painted it, then came bak and painted my garage door too, to use up the paint and get more space on the garage shelf. Win win.

Son has been filling my garage and shed up with car stuff - he's into modding his car and he's stripped it out. Got really fed up with his procrastinations that he'd buy himself a shed, so, in the space next to our summer house I built a storage shed from scratch over two days and then moved all his junk in there. I get space in my garage and the summer house, where I should have been working in the heat - died in the conservatory instead. The bonus was, I got it to fit where I wanted it, and it matches the summer house as it's attached to it. It did cost me about £300 in materials, but I'm happier than having his rubbish littering my bike garage.

Sorry about that old chap, but what is it about fishmongers windows that causes so much condensation?

Similarly boring-but-satisfying day here. Turned a pile of half-rotten old fencing into the skeleton of another wood store. One of those rare jobs that actually took less time than expected. Still got to clean it up and paint it so it looks halfway decent, but it's mostly done.

Also painted some of the old boards as gravel boards for the new fence, which I put up a couple of weeks ago.

And put a new lambda sensor on my car, which seems to have sorted the fault.

Most boringly, went to Aldi, did a load of washing, and made some bread dough.

Off to make chilli now. Almost feels like autumn!
