Part of me feels happy at justice being served, while part of me just feels sad.

The little kid in me that wondered why people hurt people has never entirely gone away.

If only the store owner was armed, that situation could have been defused within seconds.

I will say its nice to see the people In the video actually do something, rather that succumb to the bystander effect.

The robbers offered violence. The shopkeeper used reasonable force to stop them. The customer was very restrained in his use of force. The firemen used overwhelming numbers but from the look of it minimal force.

Stupid robber ends up with a sore head. Innocent woman customer doesn't. Sounds fair to me.

Life is simple...everything has a consequence....if you are not willing to accept the consequence of your actions....then don't do it!

Deserved everything they got! Shame the other one got away with less.

The shopkeeper was keeping a baseball bat behind the counter

In the UK we'd prosecute him!

In the UK we'd prosecute him!

And the robber would probably get compensation

a baseball bat beneath the counter is there for no other reason than to leather someone with.
a 4 or 6 cell maglite on the other hand might just have come to hand in a struggle.
not rocket science.

In the UK we'd [s]prosecute[/s] hail him as a hero! But the CPS would still prosecute him and give the thief compensation.

He volunteered for all he got and more. Society can easily do without the sort of person who will threaten to smash a woman's head in simply to get something for nothing.

He could always claim he was tying to swat a fly on the mans head.

I'm not sure that is really a proper solution.

In pretty much all robbery situations, there's a very easy, quick solution that defuses the situation and avoids injuries etc.

1) Give the robber exactly what they want;
2) Contact your insurer.

Dont go threatening with a Tyre Iron and not expect to get Battered 😯

I think the Shop assistant/owner showed remarkable restraint with the bat 😀

That's the sensible solution but it doesn't take account of me losing my rag and having a go at the idiot who's trying to rob me.

Actually yes, it could have been an effective deterrent. You have two men who are brandishing a large knife and prybar, in an attempt in intimidate the patrons and owner. They have threatened everyone in that store, in an attempt to steal. Just the mere sight of a firearm, will more often than not end a hostle situation. They are petty thugs out to make a quick money at another persons expense. I applaud the man behind the counter for his actions, he was protecting his livelihood.

Of course if the would be thieves suspected that the store owner would be armed then there is not way that they would just go in brandishing guns, nope that sort of escalation of violence would never happen.

It's just fortuitous that the shop owner had his son's sports kit with him behind the counter 😉

Quite correct this. Applies to your own home as well. If a burglar breaks in and you clock him with a baseball/cricket/rounders bat you could well be done as you'd have used a weapon in a pre-planned fashion (don't know the legal jargon 🙂 )
On the other hand it's dark, you need a torch right? And the fact that a 6 cell maglite is actually a two foot long metal bar, is merely a coincidence. At least that's what a copper once told me.
Plus using the maglite you can blind them prior to biffing them

If the bit from 1:36 onwards was shot in black n white it would look like a Harold Lloyd film 🙂

So your telling me if someone broke into your home, you would just sit there and do nothing? You would just stand by allowing all your hard work to literally walk out the door, and just file a insurance claim? If that ever happens I suggest you offer them a cup of tea and welcome him into your home while your at it. You know for damn sure the police won't show up in time do be of any use.
Seriously this is the problem with people these days, they are spineless. A simple home invasion can quickly escalate into beatings, rape or even murder. Don't believe me? Just last month a woman was at home when a man broke in, he proceeded to beat and throw her down the stairs. How about the stalker who broke into a home and raped the women as she was on the phone with the police.
What I'm getting at is you need to have a means to defend yourself and property let it be a with baseball bat or even a can of mace. Sure some things are just possessions that are replaceable, and may not be worth fighting for. But there are situations you should stand up and fight.

3) Premium goes up
4) Repeat from 1
5) Can't get insurance after a while?
