Been think about getting either one of these:

https://www.planetx.co.uk/products/on-one-rujo-sram-rival-1-gravel-bike

I will be using mostly for commuting (6 miles, country roads) but also some canal rides with family, B roads, back lanes, maybe the odd tame trail such as the Llandegla blue.

I currently have a 2019 Vitus Rapide with 1x11 gearing which has been great apart from I do get numb/tingly hands if I do 15+ miles. I never get any hand problems on my Nukeproof Scout which makes me lean towards the Titus but the gearing would need changing for the road. Does anyone know if a rival crankset would work with eagle cassette/derailleur?

I'm interested to try titanium or steel frame having never had either. Are there any specific benefits/flaws of each?

I like to ride fast-ish but only for fitness and to compare against myself. Not chasing KOMs on the road as I'm more a mountain biker/commuter than a roadie. My Vitus has taken the abuse of being used in shitty weather and thrown in the garage and never cleaned so I need something that can take that sort of abuse.

Cheers.

Grizzly

Marin Gestalt XR looks like great value for the 2023 model and is a proper MTBers gravel bike.

Just one thing, among many ,to consider. The quality of the material and build.  I am more than happy with my 2014 On One Pickenflick but can't compare with premium Ti. Steel I have more experience with steel and can happily say that it is a mixed bag. Don't fall for the compliant sweet ride cobblers. If it made of gas pipe and I include the frame builders own brands in that it  won't be great. The legend of steel is based on good old 531 frames or maybe expensive 753, 853 etc or the Columbus equivalents. My Cotic X is gas pipe as were my Kaffenbacks. I wouldn't be betting that the PX is complete high quality* nicely butted stuff through out.

*Yes I know that steel is steel but it is what is done with it that counts..

That's some high praise! Were you not tempted to design your own and get it made?

I got a second hand Vandal with carbon forks and 50c gravel tires.

I've done 500 miles of a 4 miles each way commute with slightly longer gravel rides, 8-12 miles, home some weeks.

It's good, it would be better for me with proper mudguard and rack bosses.

The silk road would be a better bike for me than my Vandal, but that's what came up second hand in my size.

I had been working on drawings for a gravel bike with a dropper I had wanted and was looking at a UK builder or my mate Terry at Waltly to knock a sample together for me.

But Cotic have an incredible deal and are obviously very lovely with their support of riders, employees and reshoring of production as well as exploring EU options so I just dropped an order for a Cascade because it’ll support them through hard times where they’re being kicked in the nuts from people trying to support CRC or Wiggle who realistically aren’t the CRC or Wiggle we remember.

YMMV and a bike is a bike but I’m certain Cy and his company is worth supporting as much now as when I helped him get started 20 years ago.
