My mum has been in a home for 2 years being paid for by the council.

My step dad was shall we say "traditional" so he had all their money in his bank account, hence the council paying for my mum's care.

He died yesterday leaving £120000 and the house to my mum. Obviously these funds will now be used to pay for my mum's care. My brother and I have LPAs so will be responsible for sorting mum's finances as she is far from capable of dealing with anything.

How soon will "his" money become available to my mum and when will the council stop paying for my mum? Her care costs £90000 a year and we really don't want the council to be wanting their money before my mum/us have the funds to pay it.

Obviously we will see solicitors but not for another 2  weeks .

The council won't suddenly demand the money so carry on with the legal process. They will wait. We had a charge put on MIL's house to cover fees until she died then it took us nearly a year to get it emptied and sold. The council waited.
