This ore train has now toppled over. It was being stored on "high ground" but it must have turned to mud.

"This is an unprecedented flooding event and Nelia is a high point in the area, which has previously provided safe flood-free stowing for trains in flood events."

Train in flood

I've been there in big floods. This one is huge - expect to see Noah cruise by...

And it's so wet, even the crocs are climbing trees.

That look brutal. Hope they have a big bucket somewhere they can store some in for the next droughts.

In the dry season the flood warning signs are just a bit strange, crossing big planes like that with no sign of any water but it comes up quick when that much comes down, while at the other end Tassie has just been drenched after some of the worst fires

Is this where they had to drain the dam, as it was overflowing?

I was in Queensland when they suffered severe flooding in 2011 ish.

From what I'm hearing this is much worse, possibly worse than 1974.

Two properties I used to own in Townsville have been flooded and they have never previously been threatened. Also they have been having to fly supplies in because rail and road are washed out.

The cruel thing is a lot of the cattle stations that have been nursing their cattle through the prolonged droughts and spent hundred of thousands on feed have now lost much of their herds, 800 out of a 1,000 in one case.

The lucky ones will clean up bigtime this year though. Apparently green grass is popping up everywhere in the brown lands. Of course, that means huge bushfires come the end of the year...

Holy moly that’s a bit scary.
I had to go back to the beginning to remind myself what it looked like before the rain.

Australia is a vast place. Rain, no matter how much, in one isolated area (which is in monsoon country and they are prone to extremes of weather) isn't going to solve the drought conditions thousands of miles away unfortunately.

Neice and partner bought their first house in cairns last year, luckily they had the sense to listen to my sister and not buy into the cheaper development on the floodplain...

Know that.

We use terms like water lizard in FNQ when trying not to frighten tourists, also aquatic geckos, water doggies, river goannas, etc etc... 🙂

Legless lizards for snakes.

Noahs for sharks.

Drop bears for koalas for the opposite effect, and so on.
