I think it more accurately illustrates the relative ease in organising protests compared to the 70s. Interesting to see though

i think it shows the relative disparity between rich and poor worldwide.

I think it's pretty.
On a more serious note, it may be a combination of both the above poitns. More access to communicaiton and social media and more opportnities to make a voice heard
