bah, what a time for the telly to conk out (maybe).
bit of a puzzler and i cant get my head around whats happening. all of a sudden we're not getting a picture, but we do get the sound.
HDMI1 - Humax PVR with all the channels
HDMI2 - chromecast
HDMI3 - bluray player.
worked fine yesterday, today no picture on either humax or bluray but still get sound. stranger still..... the chromecast is fine. perfect picture, we cast and it plays fine.
swapped tv's from the bedroom and plugged in humax, all fine. so its the lounge tv thats playing up rather than the separates.
swapped the HDMI sockets around, so we now have chromecast HDMI1, bluray HDMI2 and humax HDMI3. exactly the same problem, only the chromecast has a picture in a different socket, so its not the HDMI sockets.
i know we sometimes mess up on the remotes (who doesnt) by pressing TV instead of PVR, or TV instead of source or somethings and we dont really know what we're doing with those settings, but we always get back to normal one way or another. not this time tho.
i cant think of anything on the tv remote which would cause a loss of picture but still have sound, yet still allow a chromecast to work.
telly is an old samsung, bought in thailand many years ago so its had a good life, but just want to make sure we havent done anything silly before retiring it.
any suggestions on anything else we can check?
thanks
Is there a reset option in the settings in case you have managed to do something weird?

ill have a look in a bit, ive just done what i maybe should have tried first, unplugged everything and will leave it a while before re-connecting.
as far as settings go tho, another strange thing. on the humax and bluray channels i can hear the ping of settings and menu etc being selected but cant see anything still.
yet the chromecast channel will show them. tis right weird.
Got a button for picture format (zoom/fill etc) try pressing that some.
Have you changed the sound input setting to a source you don’t have plugged in I.e optical.
Does the settings menu show on screen. Turn the brightness up
Edit: Just read that properly, have you tried swapping HDMI leads between devices, you might have two dodgy leads
well crisis averted, should have known really, can you believe it was sorted by leaving cables out and switching power off overnight? so basically, switch off and back on again, should have known to try that first!
thanks for your suggestions, its still a puzzler as to why it was playing up as i hadnt played with any settings or done anything at all to it, but sorted now.
cheers
If this happened to our TV I'd be gutted because it ain't that old. Then a bit excited coz it would be replaced with a bigger telly. Then a bit gutted if it's started working again as no new bigger TV.
Our remote recently died (18 months or so old). ebuyer lied and denied all responsibility, then went round in circles for a bit. Their latest claim is that the remote control was a 'free accessory' so there's nothing they can do about it.... Absolute con merchants!
It’ll cost you less that £10 for a replacement remote I’d not even bother asking for a replacement.
Dodgy copies are less than a tenner. Genuine ones are more like £50. I have ended up buying a genuine one myself, but I really don't like it when companies just outright lie to get out of their responsibilities.
Do you have hound babies/children, guaranteed they changes the settings while searching for peppa pig
hmmm, looks like it wasnt a one-off, its now done this 3 times in the last 2 days....
ive posted in the 'what new tv?' thread asking for suggestions for a new one, but before we splash the cash, is there anything else we can try do you think? its now definitely not a clumsy finger on the remote, it seems to happen whenever the humax is recording something and we switch the tv on, no picture, and its tv off the wall, unplug everything, leave it a few minutes, re-connect everything, then back on the wall. once in a blue moon we could cope with, but this will become too much of a faff if it happnes regularly.
yes, we can try always ensuring the humax isnt recording when we switch it on, but it still may not be that, and just a coincidence.
thanks
I have an LG that Does something similar. Picture goes and then need to do some combination of off/on/bash it. It’s old though-plasma I think. No idea what the cause is mind.
Have you tried disconnecting all but one of the inputs.

thatll be the next thing to try, a process of elimination (if my wife hasnt smashed it by then) 😀
ive just updated the software on it this morning so will see if that solves it.
thanks
