You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Was gonna post this yesterday, but got distracted. Hard to believe 40 years have gone by.
50 years surely?
50 years surely?
40 years since the tenth anniversary though.
Only 12 since it was remastered.
Slade's Cum on Feel the Noise was number one, T-Rex were number two. Focus with Sylvia, Strawbs Part of the Union, Thin Lizzy Whiskey in the Jar, Duelling Banjos, Roll over Bethoven, Superstition... were in the charts and you were listening to that dirge, thols2. You wasted your youth.
I can do a Medley of 73 songs on guitar but have never ever thought of learning anything Floyd. My current band had a song called Floyd before I joined, I rewrote the lyrics.
You wasted your youth.
I did. And I don't regret any of it.
🙂
Time? "Scrub scrub scrub till the waters brown"
Far better lyrics than the Putin apologists
Great thread title... guessed the content before clicking.
Released the year I was born, so I'm never going to forget how old it is... well, until I forget how old I am.
Ahhh... RustyNissanPrairie... nearly clicked on that... only watched the first series, waiting for my eldest to be at home before watching series two.
In response to your comment about Putin Apologists...
Roger Waters speaking for Russia at the UN was messed up though.
Far better lyrics than the Putin apologists
Roger Waters is a Putin apologist. AFAIK, the other members aren't. The band split because Waters was a total *, then the other members reformed without him. You can't hold them responsible for him being a *.
Great song. And even Roger Waters does it justice live...

Were they mentioned to prove how great music was in March 1973? You missed out Long Haired Lover From Liverpool and Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah) by G Glitter. The Osmonds thing gave me an allergic reaction even as a 5 year old.
As much as I love Thin Lizzy, ELO and Focus, to this observer March 1973 wasn't a great moment in music history, which may be why some people were listening to 'that dirge'.
😀
I thought he mentioned it so he could show he can use Google.
You forgot Thick as a Brick, the pinnacle of prog rock.

Who doesn't, however in this case I have more than just the song titles and the year in my head:

Thanks for the info. It was “Name The Year” on the final ever Pop Master today - good timing.

As others have pointed out, of the surviving members of the band, it’s Waters who’s shown himself to be a reactionary apologist for autocratic dictatorships, which, considering he’s the one responsible for The Wall, might be thought to be ironic.
Having seen PF on the ‘Wish You Were Here’ tour, I can say that they weren’t particularly exciting to watch; without the visuals you might as well have been listening to the record, no interaction with the audience at all.
A contrast to Nick Mason’s band Saucerful Of Secrets, who play Floyd material up to DSOTM, and are bloody wonderful! They played two sets, a total of just over two hours - a whole bunch of blokes of a certain age left Bath Forum very happy indeed.
Considering his age, Mason is still an outstanding drummer, he’s just very economical in how he plays.
