Anyone got any experience with these?
Similar to Apple's AirTag but I don't have Apple so they're not an option...
I'm flying with my bike soon and, having read the horror stories of piles of lost luggage in airports, wondering if it's worth this as a bit of extra insurance or if it's too heavily reliant on other people having the Tile app, having Bluetooth turned on and being near it...?
Or are there better GPS-enabled luggage trackers to look at?
Thanks
I have both.
The tile system does rely on other Tile users and there just aren't as many of those by a long shot when compared to Apple users. You don't even need to be an Apple airtag user to be part of the finding network - if you have an iPhone you in. That makes it a much more effective system.
That said, I've found the Tiles I have really useful to at least tell me that my bags are on the plane I'm currently sitting on. That's been reassuring at the very least. They are just as good as Airtags at finding items locally to you via Bluetooth. My son lost his wallet with a Tile in it a few years ago. It was on the top of his car when he drove off. We had a last seen dot on a map where it left his bluetooth range so we had a general location. We went to search for it but could not find it - even after a year where we imagined that the tile would at least surface somewhere, it didn't. It was lost in a town so not even somewhere remote.
TLDR: Tile is great for local stuff via Bluetooth but doesn't compare to the Airtag beyond the local.
