You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Miss OTS has the chance to get Taylor Swift tickets tomorrow through an early access sale thing on Ticketmaster and AXS.
Of course it’s going to be mobbed and chances are slim, but I’d like to help as best I can.
A potential complication is that we are currently in Italy. Network access will be using a mifi device on 4g.
Is using a VPN which indicates we are in UK rather than Italy going to help or hinder? I can see pros and cons, but I’d be keen to hear from someone who actually knows about this stuff.
whaddyathink?
Roaming agreements should pop you out on the UK network if the mi-fi thing has a UK SIM. You can check now though by browsing things like iPlayer and geoip sites that will show you where the internet thinks you are.
Are you getting adverts for singles in Padua or Preston?
Thanks @scuttler that makes sense. I’ll do some experimenting.
Good luck! The Swifties will be all over that like a plague of locusts! I’d honestly like to see her live, but Ticketmaster are the spawn of Satan when it comes to ticket sales and prices, they make things deliberately difficult to buy tickets, and grossly overprice tickets; I don’t know if they use the ‘dynamic pricing’ thing here, but that’s just an obscenity, just because it’s a popular artist, and it’s obviously going to be busy, let’s just inflate a $130 ticket to $5000! 😖
It was stressful enough when I was getting tickets for Kate Bush, because once I’d found tickets that were a), on a Friday, and b), down on the seated main auditorium floor, (I had 48 hour advance presale), I had 2 minutes 30 seconds to get all my details in. Then it wouldn’t let me complete! Scrolling up and down what seemed like endless pages of T&C’s, I spotted a tiny yellow box for Kate’s T&C’s I’d missed, tapped it and scrolled back to the bottom and hit ‘Confirm’. What seemed like an eternity went by before I got the confirmation. I was a sweaty emotional wreck. I’d had 25 seconds left on the clock. I was getting tickets for two other people, so they were relying on me as well.
It was worth it in the end, mind.

Problem is if Ticketmaster has a list of all VPN IPs. Many major services do that. Then it's a game of whack-a-mole. Might want to Google that first. There are alternatives to VPNs, like SmartDNS. Use a clean browser with all cookies and cache deleted thoroughly.

This is a cheap VPN that comes with SmartDNS. You just do some manually settings in your device or router setting static DNS, adding the UK DNS they supply after you register your IP on their website and even Prime doesn't know (it's how I stream from inside China. Prime isn't blocked strangely. Just the usual suspects like iPlayer, etc. Simply relay your real IP through a NO-IP tool like DUC)
Maybe you can find a SmartDNS service for a trial? Most, if not all, free/trials don't have UK DNS available though.
Nothing to add but interested to hear how this goes
Doing some more reading and following up on @scuttler ‘s and @mrdestructo ‘s advice I’m going to not use a vpn.
fingers crossed 🙏
i may well being dim here, but why can't you just log on to the Ticketmaster UK site form italy without the VPN? did similar with Ticketmaster France (from the UK) to get springsteen tickets a while ago with no issues
if your mifi sim card is uk-registered, you'll appear to the website like you're located in the UK anyway. If you're on local wifi or a local sim (or local e-sim) it'll appear like you're in italy
I've bought stuff from Ticketmaster sites abroad before - I was in the UK buying tickets for a festival in Denmark. It didn't care where I was.
All sorted. I had early access through AXS which worked perfectly. Miss OTS is still in the queue on Ticketmaster to see how they compare.
I presume with no VPN? Only asking as I'm charged with trying to get tickets next week if we get through the initial ballot stage this week (not hopeful!). We'll be in Spain so will be trying to do it via my phone either on hotel WiFi or roaming via my UK sim
@swdan no VPN, just laptop tethered to phone on 4g signal.
Cheers. I fully expect it to be a fruitless task but you never know

👍🏼🥳
@swdan my daughter got tickets for Murrayfield on Monday - cue much excitement! She had a presale code via the midnights cd
worth noting that she logged on a couple of hours after the initial sale time for Edinburgh ( having failed to get London tickets in the morning ). She’d heard that sometimes they release the tickets in batches and also sometimes people don’t complete purchases in time or their bank refuses payment and the tickets go back into the sale. So might be worth keeping trying even if it seems they’re sold out straight away.
good luck!
Cheers. To be fair, I'll need to get access to the sale first which I'm not hopeful about. I'll know by Friday and then it's a case of trying to get tickets if I clear that first hurdle. Got to be in it to win it and all that
