The kids and I got caught in a rain storm today, the lad commented that it was raining and thundering. Then we wondered, was it lightninging as well?
...very very frightening, Mama Mia....
Had this before as a translator. It's a verb in Spanish (relampaguear, relampaguendo etc) but there's no easy English translation. Lightning was flashing...
In German too. Es blitzt - it is lightninging! As in Donner und Blitzen. Not just 2 of Santa's' reindeer. but also thunder and lightening.
Or else it is flashing, as in you just got 3 points on your licence.
Lightning is a gerund from lighten originally - so a verbal noun like "the coming" whereas raining in this context is a present participle so which having the same ending, they are different.
The wind is windding.
