Hi, I need to replace the footpack on my thule roofrack because I have a new car. I can re-use the wingbars, but I can also but an full wingbar edge ex demo for the price of the new footpack.

I'd quite

My question is - does anyone know how many bikes you can confortable fit on a wingbar edge for an audi a4 or octavia? Is 2 the max or could you manage 3?

Cheers

Hi, I think the rear bar on the edge system is only 86cm long. You also lose some length as the ends slide into the feet so useable length is more like 75cm! Compare that to something like 118cm-127cm on normal wing bars and you can use the bars right to the tip

You will only get 2 Proride 598's on there or a narrower roofbox. I fitted the new edge system to a BMW 5 series the other day and I couldn't believe how little space there was.

The secondhand one you may be getting will probably be the mark 1 edge design which was a bit crap to be fair.

In my opinion the edge system is a complete waste of time if you actually want to carry stuff rather than just making your car look more 'outdoorsy'

I have two 591 racks on my wingbar edge (Octavia) I reckon you could get a third in-between them, facing backwards so that the bars don't foul eachother.

I have a measure and take some pics when Mrs P gets back home

Do you carry anything else? I have moved some boats that I needed the extra bar length sticking out past the clamp.

Edge do look nicer, I would imagine quieter and cant bang your head on them.

Just bikes at the moment, usually three but more likely two in future

The one I'm looking at is a v1, so useful feedback on the "crapness" :-)

I've also seen some Yakima bars which are cheaper and apparently quieter than Thule ones

I've got some aero bars to sell that were on my Passat, they have the metal hook that goes around the door jamb and locates in a little hole.

The bars are the ones that extend past the clamp and I got 4 bikes on it easily.

I've just had a measure. On Octavia Scout Mk2, there is 720mm of useable bar. With both my outer 591's pointing forward, there is just the 6" you need to get a third down the middle facing rearward.
