You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Anyone have a Velocompact? Or one of the newer Thule racks? My plus bike just won’t fit on my older euroway rack, so looking at a new bike rack. So wondered if anyone knows if the 3.0 tyres will fit?
Yep I’ve contacted Thule and they said contact a dealer, contacted a dealer, there not sure, and I can’t take the bike as I need a rack, although might just take a wheel and see...
I have one of the new Velospace XT ones, and that would work with 3.0 tyres.
That one is next on the list, just the cost, but it’s an investment my current rack has to be 6 years old and apart from the electrics hasn’t missed a beat.
Can be adjusted to tilt really far, so if you have a berlingo with a tailgate, it will clear.
The VeloSpace is specifically designed for anything long, heavy or fat tyred, it'll certainly handle 3" tyres.
The VeloCompact is designed to be a light, compact rack for 'normal' bikes, if you have road bikes, hybrids or 'traditional hardtails it'll be fine but if serious MTB is your priority then I'd go VeloSpace as it'll take pretty much anything.
It also tilts further for tailgates.
Yep I have a ds3 (don’t laugh I like it) my euroway tilts and it’s funny at service stations the looks you get, amount of times I’ve had someone come across to talk about the “smart” bike rack. Looks like VeloSpace it is, anyone want a euroway....
Ordered the velospace and surprisingly sold my euroway within 10 minutes must of put it too cheap but my dodgy rewiring was an issue hence I only put it up for £150 which I thought was overpriced but it’s sold.
Good time of year to sell it, plenty of people planning road trips, camping and staycations.
Thule spares availability seems to be pretty good too so they're still worth having 2nd hand as you can keep them running.
Tbh the bulbs are new and the boot tilt function works which many say this fails. I dragged the cable 200 miles down the motorway, didn’t realise till I got home. I over engineered the reconnection with a waterproof junction socket etc... looks pretty ugly but does the job and honestly thought it would put off anyone wanting to buy it, but seems being honest paid off.
I've just bought a Velocompact 3 but only done one trip with it, albeit up and over the Lecht a couple of times.
Whilst I don't know specifically about the 3" tyres I had my Altitude and a 5010 on the back without any issues. I'd be surprised if there was an issue with 3" tyres, the straps are certainly long enough.
My velospace turned up today, a question for @orangespyderman the plastic cover that goes on the towbar hitch, does yours sit straight or a bit off to the plastic on under the lever.. and when hitched it seems a bit tight compared to the euroway which clamped and straightened as it clamped, this one has to be perfect for the securing lever to come down spent 10 mins and I couldn’t get the lever to latch at all.
Have a velo compact and a plus bike , pinnacle Ramin 3+ .... fits a treat 🙂 ..... the fact that the lights and wheel holders move in , so i can get it in the boot is a bonus
