Hi
Does anyone know how to actually use the Thule smart slide (measurement rule)
I am using Footpack 753 wingbars 961
I understand the process of putting this together but where do you find out where to set the measurement too?
Once on the car it can be adjusted but I am guessing there is a chart for setting at the smart slide has measurement numbers on these
see below 50s in to 1min 20
I've never seen any ruler bar what's part of the bars, but when I fitted mine I'm 99.9% certain that the bar measurements were in the instructions that came with the vehicle-specific footpack.
IIRC there are measurements on the underside of the bar in the groove where to put the foot.
But TBH, I've never bothered with it. Loosely attach feet, place on vehicle, locate correctly, tighten up and that's it.
It's easier with 2 people (one each side) if you are bothered about marking the roof.
Thanks
I had a look but cant find anything so I presume just put them up and the adjust to suit.
I would have thought on the THULE website would have a chart where you could enter your car, footpack, bar type and then it would tell you where the set the smart slide too.
The video appears to show something but no idea where to find this info
The measurements for the markings on the bars will depend on the car. Therefore as the only part bespoke to the car is the fitting kit, this is where you will find the measurements based on X (front bar) and Y (rear bar)
753 is a footpack not a fitting kit and can be used on loads of cars as can a 961 bar. The fitting kit will be the bit at the bottom of the footpack which interfaces with your car roof
Tell me the kit number and the car year plus number of doors and I'll tell you the correct spacing
I'm with @oldtennisshoes. Attach the feet loosely, sling it on the car and tighten when happy.
Hey
The fitting kit is 4044
ha - the instructions don't have it! Assume its a Civic tourer with flush rails. Thats very rare (not the car, the lack of measurements). The only clue is that you have to locate the feet into the two holes on the inside of your flush rails - should have 2 pegs sticking out of your fitting kit that stick into the 2 holes.
sorry but for some reason the diagram is there but no measurements....my shop deals with Thule and I haven't seen this very often.
yeah thats the one a civic tourer, I have the holes on the flush rails so all good for that, just could find the measurement info,
I think it will be @oldtennisshoes. way.
You may be able to help tho if you deal with Thule, halfords state the required wingbars are 969, THULE state 961 along with other sites.
Have you ordered any for a civic tourer before?
No not sold bars for a Civic according to our stock control but our guide says 961 and so does Thule.
969's are the next size up and may well fit (I have them on one of my cars rather than recommended 961's as I wanted a wider bar) but because the slots are only a certain length underneath sometimes you can come unstuck as the feet won't go far enough in - this is especially true of flush rail modern cars as the rails tend to be quite far inboard on the roof.
Great thanks I will go with Thule guide and the rest over Halfords

If you want longer bars, the Thule Probars have slots along the full length and take the standard Thule feet. In the UK the max legal length is the car width including mirrors, in other countries (Spain for one) it's without mirrors.
Got the 961 and fitted, they look fine and appear to fit well.
Looking around at the official Honda ones these appear to be 130cm long, compared to the 961 118cm. The 969 were 127cm
I all honesty I have no idea how the honda ones are 130cm, I would without a doubt smack my head on these when putting my kid in and out the back door to his seat.
Does anyone have a Honda Civic Tourer to compare?
Found out the honda official ones are 127.5com
That would suggest that Halfords guide is right at the 969 (127cm) and Thule and every other site state 961 (118cm) is incorrect.
but as my last post I would without a doubt smack my head on these when putting my kid in and out the back door to his seat if these were 127cm
