Hi Folks,

I know this is a huge longshot but our second option we have for the little un which we want to use is the Thule Yepp Mini we bought 2nd hand, unfortunately when missus went to collect hadn’t realised it needed a key and the owners hadn’t used it for many years and also forgot it needed a key, they can’t find it and it’s key type 09 that we need.

Wondering if anyone knows anyone who would be willing to sell their spare 09 key at all? She even bought an 08 key online thinking that’s the one we needed (I’ve advised her to go to specsavers now) but when I looked saw it was an 09 lock barrel so needs an 09 key that we can’t find anywhere even for sale!

Praying someone may have one but do appreciate it’s a hell of a longshot!

Many Thanks

Do you need the key? I have a Yepp mini I got 2nd hand without a key and it works fine. The seat isn't locked in place but it is secured

I think so yes DC as I need to remove the standard steerer mount and fit the smaller thin one I have. To be honest I’ve only gone by looking at it but I’m assuming the lock locks the end of the mount to the back of the mount… I may be wrong. Either way can’t seem to get the thicker bracket off.

I’ll find some instructions and report back!!

Pretty sure the lock is just to stop the seat getting nicked off the mount. The mount is just held on with the two bolts.

Edit- ours is the Yepp Nexxt so might be different but I put the key somewhere on the fireplace when I fitted it a year ago. I assume it’s still there because I haven’t used it!

Here we go this is how it looks. So I think it’s maybe an older design, to me it looks like the key locks the mount in place.

I need that mount off to fit the smaller mount we have.

Another photo, of the front. If you press the grey button in the mount jiggles a bit but I’m assuming the key releases that. I can’t see any Allen bolt that locks that mount to the main seat

IMG-7357

Press the red button then the grey bit should slide and the seat should be able to come off the mount. You might then be able to see how the cover works. As swanny says, I believe the lock is just to stop the seat being nicked

If you can't order one I do have a 009 key but only one. I'd send it to you so you can get one cut but would need it back because it must fit something.

Oh fantastic thank you so much!

So pressing that we just had to wiggle it a fair bit and it came off! Now to see if I can get it fitted to the capra and useable with him being over 10kg!!

Here the narrow mount is fitted, thank you!
IMG-7358

Please ignore the html embed characters, no ideas why that’s doing that and I’m not fussed. Main thing is the photo is there!

Will be trying it in the morning!

My son is about 10.5kg and it works fine on my Cotic BFe. I had to bodge my mount a bit as I have the screen which doesn't work with the stem mount. They're definitely made more for Dutch bikes rather than proper MTBs!

Thanks DC, ours came with the screen too. It must be the thin mount that the screen doesn’t work with is it? As surely Thule wouldn’t make a bike seat and screen that can only be used on cheapie bikes!!

Will see tomorrow anyway, if the screen is needed I’ll get him some DH goggles instead. Surely they do 100% goggles for a 1 year old…

The screen doesn't work with the aheadset stem mount (I think it's the thin metal plate). The clamp mount is designed for quill stems which is fairly standard on Dutch bikes. I have used the clamp mount directly on my steerer tube so it is effectively acting as a stem spacer. It did require the purchase of a new fork so there was enough steerer available for it between the top headset and stem.

Pretty sure any key cutting place would be able to do it as it's a standard key. Just tell them a number and they can look it up to make it. If not contact roofbox.co.uk. they should be able to help with Thule keys.

All sorted thanks all! Short test ride this morning and all good, he seems to be loving it so far! I was that keen he was still in his PJ’s!

Dad and Mum who are big into MTB are very happy!

Both mine loved it. Second only loved it once he was done biking and tired though. Kids are great mud guards / wind shields

Great mudguards 🤣 , luckily for him I have a small fork enduro guard and they’re INCREDIBLY effective even though they’re so small!

So…what this also means is we have a Thule 08 key to sell.
A DMR low stack height stem to sell and the Weeride to sell, and steerer adapter bracket 😆

It’s the DMR Defy 35 in black. Bought it to gain another 15mm on the stack when I was trying to get the weeride to fit and it’s never been used
