Threads vs Twitter

Twitter is now a god-awful mess of hard-right Russian bot fed tripe, with Musk's posts being dumped at the top of the feed and literally unblockable. I quite liked writing community notes for the worst stuff, but it's now such a fetid swamp I don't even want to do that.

But. Threads. I don't know if it's their algorithm, or deliberate race-baiting, but so many people posting there are genuinely moronic. Half of them are putting stuff that should go into Google, and the other half are so utterly thick that I wonder how they manage to get through the morning without accidentally strangling themselves with a toothbrush.

Why can't we just have Twitter back when it was interesting and fun?

I'll say it again. When I was using Twitter I didn't see all those "hard right" posts because was I was only reading the Following tab (Musks posts notwithstanding).

I stopped Twitter a couple of weeks back but I've no intention of replacing it with something else.

Tried Threads when coming off Twitter but didn't like it so now on Bluesky which is much like Musks platform but without the nonsense.

This.

Jumping to Threads (disclaimer, I've never looked at it) feels a bit frying pan / fire.

We have, it's Bluesky.

I gradually moved from twitter to Bluesky over the course of a year. Since the US elections there’s been a big influx of users there and I reckon I’ve got about 95% of the accounts I want to follow there now.

It’s a lot less algorithmic than the big billionaire owned sites.

I'm only still on Twitter because a couple of users I enjoy following still only have a presence there.

Tell them you are moving over to bsky and would be sorry to miss them if they weren't planning on it already...

Bluesky for me now too.

Most of the F1 people I follow are on there now.

Have got an account on Threads too, but somehow it feels lacking.

I never found Twitter as bad as the liberal media would have you believe - 'don't follow racists, don't see racist content' seemed to work for me.

Threads I only really see when it's promoted in Instagram, and it seems to be click-baity and spammy stuff

Bluesky is kinda OK: quite smug ("we're the people who decided Twitter isn't good enough for us", I guess), and (once you mute all the cartoon/ hentai content) absolutely drowning in American liberals complaining about Trump and saying Kamala Harris was right. I mean, it's not actively offensive, but it's not exactly relevant or interesting right now

Even if somehow you can avoid the thousands of bot accounts and hard right content in Twitter, anyone who still uses it is giving succour to its Nazi owner, which is reason enough to give it the heave-ho.

Why would anyone want to stick with a platform that fails to moderate this kind of material, and probably a lot worse stuff?

This. Bluesky much better than either Threads or Twitter.

There is no excuse for still using Twitter.

Twitter really is a cesspool now.

Bluesky is definitely where most of the 'good' people of twitter seem to be heading - so news/politics etc. However, the Bluesky algorithm is not great.  It doesn't do the twitter thing and feed loads of nazi nonsense at you, but it also doesn't seem to reliably show me posts from people I follow.

Threads is Meta/Facebook.  Facebook seems to be determined to kill itself - far from its original purpose of keeping in touch with your friends it's now mostly adverts and 'attention' feeds. I looked at a few old dance music posts and now my feed is filled with them.  I get every post by an account called 'discotron' despite not following and actively trying to block it.

Threads is being heavily promoted on there and I've clicked on something once or twice and it seems to have the same 'over strong attention focus' algo as FB.  I clicked on something about Severence (the ATV show) and the next post was complaining that they'd clicked on one Severance related post and it was now 90% of their feed...

I never followed racists either, yet I would be presented with right-wing racist bullshizzle daily. Facebook deffo the same - I block the right-wing, pro-Trump and "Gulf of America" accounts it bombards me with, yet still they come.
