Thoughts of our 23 year old data analyst, who rents a room off his brother and has never had a girlfriend.

Debt is a mugs game, you don't need a car or if you do get a cheap one for £500 anything else is a rip off.

Maybe getting a house is acceptable but anything else just enslaves you to a system where you're just a pawn in the capitalist manifesto.

Me, I'm never going to borrow anything.

I don't even see why I should have to buy work clothes. It's my money, why should I have to look smart at work? I wear this one shirt for a whole week and no-one knows!
😆

Don't get me wrong I think the lad is very sweet, but I did find the above lecture over the coffee machine bringing a smile to my face at his endearing nievety.

I'm pretty sure women aren't attracted to debt, so I reckon it isn't that that means he hasn't got a girlfriend. Wearing the same shirt for a week is pretty tawdry though. 🙂

If you work in IT you don't need to change clothes as we don't sweat and smell naturally of lavender and puppies.
It's the people who work in any form of sales, management, customer service, finance, law or marketing that need to change clothes constantly to mask the sweaty stinky fear that their lies will be discovered 🙂

Maybe getting a house is acceptable but anything else just enslaves you to a system where you're just a pawn in the capitalist manifesto. - Pretty much yeah

Me, I'm never going to borrow anything. - Clever

I don't even see why I should have to buy work clothes. It's my money, why should I have to look smart at work? I wear this one shirt for a whole week and no-one knows! - If you wear overalls to work you can claim tax back on them but if you have to buy other work wear like suits you can't. The chap has a point. The shirt thing though ugh

Better to be frugal than to be racking up debts and to be free and single rather than having the hassle and expense of running a lady (who he's probably not going to settle down with) at 23.

He'll learn about the shirt and personal cleanliness though.

He should be driving a fast car or motorbike and be going on great holidays.

I was thinking more Rick from the Young ones, but I think you're spot on with Wolfie.

I've had enough £500 cars in the past to know they are a false economy.

Maybe getting a house is acceptable but anything else just enslaves you to a system where you're just a pawn in the capitalist manifesto.

Owning a house is acceptable but if wear a clean shirt then you're a pawn in the capitalist manifesto?

Compared to paying £20000 for a £10000 car on finance, which is immediately only worth £6000?

OK, I think there is some middle ground between £500 and £20,000. 🙄

Last car I bought was about 5 years old and c£3k, never had any problems with it. When I was younger and buying cars for £500, I was always spending a few hundred quid here and there, breaking down, not starting in the wet/ cold etc. You can be lucky of course, but generally I stick to what I said - £500 on a car is a false eonomy, especially when you come to get an MOT.

I've worked in IT. You never get used to the manfug, frayed shirt collars, down at heel Clarks shoes, and tea stained fake Hermes and joke ties.

In IT, I once (for a female friend who sat opposite another '23 year old data analyst secondee' in summer - and did't like it) put a bar of soap in his drawer with a note attached ("Use externally, twice daily".)

I have just spent a couple of days working at one of our regional offices where a lot of our IT people are based.

It has been quite an eye opener, almost like working for another company, in so many respects. Sounds like he would fit in well at our place. 😆

He's right that debt is a mug's game, but the alternative solution is just to save up and buy a half decent car outright, rather than relying on a loan.

Ian, you don't happen to be 23 and a data analyst secondee do you?

VH- they are just delightfully idealistic.

When you're just about getting by with all manner of commitments. You just can't suddenly just find the cash to buy new kids shoes after they've wrecked them again, repair the boiler and all manner of other cack that life throws at you.

It was the emphasis with which he laid down the law to me about it brought a wry smile to my face

I still have a standing bet with friend (he was a couple of years from starting uni while I was leaving) for £100 claiming that he would be able to avoid accruing any debt through uni and not only that, but he would finish with enough money to put a deposit down on a flat. He argues he's yet to finish uni but judging by his current spending habits I think it's pretty safe money 🙂

It's fun to look through his eyes though and remember the good ol' days™ before inevitable capitalism crushes your soul.

He's right about the car. It's been proven a few times that buying an old banger and running it till it's done is the cheapest way of owning a car.

And good to see someone that young not getting into debt splashing out their entire wages on whatever the latest stupid fashion is (and before anyone else says it, yes I know that's a bit rich coming from a mountain biker!!).
