The current house has what i am guessing, it was built in 1962, asbestos floor tiles in the kitchen. Currently there is vinyl covering them up, the sheet vinyl floor has seen better days. Under the tile that came up is a black bitumen/mastic that originally bonded the tile to the floor.

Going forward i am trying to figure out options, how safe/unsafe are these tiles. obviously i can put down another roll of vinyl and cover them up. Can i use porceline/etc floor tiles and adhesive. The floor appears level and i really don't want to use self leveling to encapsulate due to the increase in floor thickness this will cause.

Clean it up, prime or slurry bond coat then porcelain tiles down with a solid bed of polymer modified rapid set.
