Tug at the heart strings. Whatever the reason. Let's have them.

No distance left to run

I'm not gay or owt but, despite the Liberace style presentation of this (it's different in my head) this is one of the truely difficult, heart tugging type songs, that I like to wallow in occasionally.

And like DezB

Sorry, on the iPad and the connection is sloooooow tonight. So no links.

DezB, I had this in mind before seeing yours: Scott Walker - Always Coming Back to You. It just kills me...

Cat Power - Blue (the Joni Mitchell song)

Superwolf (Bonnie Prince Billy & Matt Sweeney) - Blood Embrace

PJ Harvey - Silence

Van Morrison - Almost Independence Day

Ryan Adams - Do I Want

Neil Young - Don't Cry

Bonnie Prince Billy & Tortoise - Calvary Cross (the Richard & Linda Thompson song)

Bert Jansch - Blackwaterside (or the Anne Briggs version)

Roberta Flack - Do What You Gotta Do

Alasdair Roberts - Farewell Sorrow

Meg Baird - Dear Companion

Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Polanski Day.

I could go on............

Man, what a voice, that Scott.

Anyway, this still gets me after the death of JP, first song I heard when it was announced.

So many wonderful songs here - particularly nice to see mentions for Sedaka and the Unthanks

I think this one pulls at some emotions many of us can understand:

Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle : does it for me.

Oh nothing's going to change my love for you
I wanna spend my life with you
So we make love on the grass under the moon
No one call tell, damned if I do
Forever journey on golden avenues
I drift in your eyes since I love you
I got that beat in my veins for only rule
Love is to share, mine is for you?

I had the pleasure of hearing him do it live in Deia (mallorca) at a very private wedding party at a hilltop villa a few years ago with full orchestral backing - as long as i live i will never ever forget that performance - absolutely stunning.

Talk Talk - good choice and a vastly under appreciated band.

A Mark Hollis quote that's always stuck with me :

Before you play two notes learn how to play one note – and don't play one note unless you've got a reason to play it."

It's the poor quality that has depressed me rather than the songs 😆 (not all of it of course!).
This is stuck in my head. Kind of sad, kind of uplifting, kind of ... marmite?

we crossed posts.

heartstrings are funny things, we all seem to be tuned to a different setting.

This one

means nothing to anyone but me and my wife I suspect.

Lots of classics here!

Heres mine:

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

I still think of my Grandad when I listen to it.

VNV Nation - Left behind.

the images used in this slideshow I don't think work, but the song is the important thing.
