Someone I know just had to have one replaced on his RS6.
Any guesses how much?
£2.75?
£289
If he can afford an RS6 I don't actually care.
If he can afford an RS6 who gives a shit ? 😯 oh not quick enough.
£250?
Hopefully he was having it replaced with a standard headlight that doesn't look like something from Halfords/Max Power?
£2.50?
damn, bruneep beat me to it.
considering mountain bike lights can cost up to £400-£450 i'd say a couple grand
EDIT: Im assuming you mean the whole headlight unit, not just a bulb
£2000
Loads of cars have them now though, DRL's are the law.
DRL's are the law.
The law doesn't state they have to be poncy looking though does it!
Yes they put those LED lights on the front and did not spend the money on putting an indicater on the back that you can see, its stupid small
£780 + vat , and that's before you have to take the whole front end of the car off to fit the part...
You could buy a bike for that.
You could buy a mountain bike light for that

Can't see it because it's never used Audi "drivers" don't have to indicate, you just hVe to keep out their way, it's the law
Bet they don't pay that much for there big knots in there ties !
Look at me 🙂
DRL's are the law.
since when?
<edit> February 2011, I see, on new cars</edit>
so when will it be compulsory to retro-fit them to existing cars (other than Volvos which have had them for years)?
Audi headlights annoy the crap out of me. And that is before the new LED ones with added dazzle factor.
I alreally had a hatred for modern HID lights which just always seem to be blinding - even when not on full beam and Audi ones seem the worst. Maybe it is something to do with Audi light pattern but they seem to point right at eye level more than other cars lights and add the stupid chavvy LED strip with loads of piercing LED spots you have a really annoying lighting system.
One more reason to hate Audi drivers! 😈
You do realise that on older Renault cars it needs a garage to change a blown headlight bulb, and if it's a Xenon they charge nearly £500 because it takes over an hour to take the whole front off the car. LED's generally don't fail, as people on here ought to know, so the cost probably reflects that. I fail to see quite why people get their knickers in a tangle over this. Jealous, much?
I am guessing CZ has an Audi.
some bunch of ****s - Audi probably - actually advertise their cars as having lights that are ten zillion percent brighter "when dipped". It's like bumps in the road or oncoming traffic don't exist in dickheadland 🙄
Boys, boys, it's only a car brand. Calm down, there's much more to get wound up about 🙂
I suppose they must think If you'll pay the £800* 'upgrade' for the wavy LED strip then you'll pay what the person you know did to have it fixed
*At least thats what my mum said they wanted for it on an A4. She opted for the normal (non christmas tree light) headlights btw
My old TT needed a new xenon light cluster (no DRL) and that was £1200 fitted.
Not sure they are law yet, but it is coming.
Boys, boys, it's only a car brand. Calm down, there's much more to get wound up about
Innit though??? FFS. 🙄
Chill out before I give you something to propperly get wound up about....
A bulb went on my Vectra last week.
£1.20.
For two.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha etc.
But how much is a light cluster?
I am so glad my Audi is going in the next week or so, I can't stand this hatred anymore 🙁
I'm gonna drive mine round really fast to annoy the faux Clarkson Audi haters. I might even forget to signal some of the time...
so when will it be compulsory to retro-fit them to existing cars
Never. You can't retrospectively apply new construction regs to cars, or we'd have to scrap everything over 2 years old for failing the new emissions regs.
As a result of European legislation adopted in 2008 dedicated daytime running lights (DRL) have been required on all new types of passenger cars and small delivery vans since February 2011. Trucks and buses will follow from August 2012.
There is no requirement to retro-fit DRLs to existing cars and no Europe-wide requirement for drivers of cars without dedicated daytime running lights to drive with headlights on during the day.

That's the great thing about Audis, you don't own them, you merely rent it for a while until the lease becomes extortionate.
I went to the Motor Show in 1998 and Audi's stand was by invite only. Hahahahahaha!

Get some respect on the road, get a Transit 🙂
I shall have to learn not to indicate before they drum me out of the 'club'. 🙂

I presumed the point being made is that when a bulb goes on some other cars you just replace a bulb yourself @ £1.50 from Halfords, not the whole unit having to be replaced by a garage/dealer @ £700-£1200.
So DRL's are like fancy permanent sidelights eh
What is this? A how big is my willy comp? "My lights cost la la la...less than yours/more than yours.." delete as ****in appropriate..
Whom gives a monkeys jizz???
Whom gives a monkeys jizz???
You would if they were bike lights 😉
Ahhh now thats different obviously...bike lights ARE important..
Car part prices are a tad crazy... i do like the idea with the berlingo that should one of it's old fashioned h4 bulbs go.. it'll be a doddle to reach in and change.
If your running an shiney expensive car you can probably afford the running costs. (the berlingo is shiney, but only twice a year when i bother to wash it)
Can't you just pop down to the breakers yard like I did for the Pug 406 light (cluster? dunno, the glass bit got broken by a stone), £40 I think it was.
For £300 i got an mot, new front brake pads, new 17" alloys, new gear box oil and my T4 lowered by 55mm. Bargain!

Gonna be a shocker a few years down the line when these cars are going second hand for a few grand. £780 for a few LEDs! 😯

But it isn't clear WHY the OP needed the light - it may have been smashed like mine, not simply a bulb that had gone...
Look on the brightside you wont see as many 'older' Audi's on the road like we do now.
Those strips are ridiculous things. They are too 'fashion' for me.
Aircon Compressor has just gone on my bro in law's 09 Golf TDI. Its warranted but apprently if it wasn't it'd be circa £800.
Previously hes had a fault with the DPF (he does over average mileage on motoroways but declined my offer to take it out and boot it).

Whatever. Both cars had the same fault and one was the price of a bag of crisps to fix, the other would have cost me 2 months grocery shopping.
The thing about those lights is the dazzle. If everyone drove round with their fog lights on, people would be up in arms, especially on here! But fog lights have a very short dipped beam and don't dazzle..... Unlike these undipped LED things.
I drive a 4 x 4 and sometimes have my fogs on as sidelights. They don't dazzle anyone. Don't let that cloud your judgement though, I'm feeling left out and want to be hated more than Audi drivers.
Why not just have your sidelights on?
They only dazzle if you stare at them in green-eyed envy 😉
hora - they get you seen better than side lights, sometimes when you don't need headlights to actually see the road with. I use them with headlights too sometimes as they make good driving lights illuminating the road directly in front of you in less than perfect conditions. Anyone who claims they are dazzling is talking out of their arse for the sake of moaning
Mine is coming with LED lights, I love them.
Right must ring up an order it.

I don't think they dazzle at all. Are you not getting confused with xenon lights that dazzle like buggery?
I can't take it anymore! Gonna have to sell mine and get a Skoda, what's the other one allowed on STW? Berlingo?
Anyone who claims they are dazzling is talking out of their arse for the sake of moaning
Well, it's your money (I'd imagine other forces also operate periodic checks/fines)

Officers based at Fletchamstead Highway police station say that the blinding lights are being misused, and it is proving dangerous to other drivers.
A £30 fine will be imposed on drivers who break the law by going around with their fog lights on.
Acting Sergeant Nigel Fairburn said:
"We have been receiving complaints from members of the public who have been dazzled by motorists using their front fog lights when there is absolutely no need.
"The legislation states they are only to be used in conditions where visibility is serious impaired – generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet).
"We will be issuing fixed penalty fines of £30 to drivers who leave their front fog lights on despite the clear conditions.
"We believe that some motorists, especially young ones, are confused about their front fog lights and their use.
"Basically, if the lights are on a separate switch with a warning light on the dashboard, these are fog lights, and should only be used in extreme conditions.
"If they come on when you flick on the main beam switch then they are driving lights not fog lights and will disappear when the lights are dipped or switched off.
Yesterday morning there was what seemed to be a ball of intense light atthe traffic lights ahead. I knew what it was but **** it left a dancing spot of light in my vision.
Bright DRL on a new motorbike- ****, did I see him/her? Yes but there is a real risk of having an accident.
I was spoken to by two police officers after following them for a couple of miles and asked if I had my fog lights on. I said no, was asked am I sure (in that John Prescott condescending laughing way) and told him they were daylight running lights and my car doesn't have fog lights. Which it doesn't, it's just that Merc put theirs where fogs would/ should be. I get flashed regularly by oncoming drivers to say I have fogs on too. I imagine with xenon lights and the LEDs it's quite bright.
I don't think they dazzle at all. Are you not getting confused with xenon lights that dazzle like buggery?
No. Not confused at all. There's no getting away from the fact that they are brighter than fog lights. Just take a look.

about time - except make the fine more.
spud I was given a new C class merc once as a courtesy car and I was really embarrased that the key fob lights up said lights. I even asked the service desk if they could be disconnected as I didn't want other drivers thinking I was clueless.
You can turn them off via the menus, buried though.
wwaswas quoting an article about fog lights.
Those Audi LEDs aren't fog lights.
Whats the point of that then?

I hear they are going to use the same method when Brussels compels us to drive on the right.

Troll, surely/hopefully.
You mean new cars will have to drive on the right, but old ones can continue to drive on the left ?I hear they are going to use the same method when Brussels compels us to drive on the right.
Wouldn't put it past them 😀
the low volume car in question has 40 valves, two turbos, it does less than 20mpg and has tyres that cost £500 each with possibly ceramic discs that cost more than a blinged up santa cruz V10. Of course it costs a lot to run!
Good trolling 😀
At last, a tax on ****ers.
