Are they any good?
I am finding myself on holiday in France more these days and feel like I should learn a few phrases/words. Are the CD's where you repeat the person any good, should I get one for the car?
Obviously they're only as good as the effort you put in.. but I found the Michel Thomas Spanish one I tried a few years ago pretty good and a lot of it is still there after several years of disuse. He breaks the language down to make it more intuitive and understandable, rather than just repeating everything..
I used the Michel Thomas ones too, found them pretty good. I also turned my sat nav over to french and learnt all the french words as I was going round on my work, always useful when you get lost đŸ™‚
Cool thanks. I will look up the Michel Thomas one.
Any other suggestions/opinions.
I asked something similar recently and many people recommended the Michel Thomas CDs as well - just started but it seems good so far.
Another for Michel Thomas. Great method of deconstructing a foreign language. From the start you learn phrases such as can I have, I need, I want, I think, etc. It's then a case of clipping the nouns to the end of the sentence ie beer, curry, black run, hospital etc .
I didn't however, have much favour for Rosetta Stone, which in disc 1 you start by learning "the horse is running?, A bowl of rice? Or the men are reading? All really relevant when entering a language I'm sure!
Oh and how can I forget?! Live Mocha. Brilliant free online learning that's kind of like facebook for language students. Pick some suggested friends who are ie french, learning english; do the exercises and….this bit's quite unique, send them your answers for feedback and they do the same to you n English. And the upside it's free! Which is always a good start.
Why not try a 'Learn an Apostrophe' CD first?
Sorry. 8)
Why take the trouble?
