I don't know diddly squat about these things.
How does it differ to an hd one? I want to play scrabble, read this website and do a rare video call. Does it have 2 cameras and I read somewhere that they had some sort of ads on them,do they?
Ta.

The ads are automatically displayed on the lock screen. You can buy a version without this for a few quid extra (currently listed @ £109).

Unless im being stupid as i look at jaynes kindle fire i see no camera nor any method of activating one from the menus

Does the internet well although it would do it better if screen rotated , its a nice size , bit heavier than expected - bout same as my ipad 2

Nicer size to hold for reading though

Edit - you just need to unlock the screen rotate..... And it appears the hd version has a front facing camera, the basic fire does not. Thatll be why the case for this one has a cut out for the camera.

Just had my first real play on the kindle actually

Initially i was impressed but the lack of a home button infuriated me , you always have to bring up the menu on screen

The silk brower is buggy and crashed often in a short period of use.

Its good for reading but it doesnt do the other stuff well enough to tempt me from my ipad even if the screen is nicer to look at

If your on a budget you could do alot worse for a tablet , the mechanics of it work well , its fast to navigate once you have the slightly odd navigation system dialed - its not intuitive. Speakers are loud if not a bit tinny and im sure there will be an update for the browser soon enough

Nexus 7 fan here...

You can definately use skype on a Nexus 7... dunno if the 8Gb has been dropped to about ~£100 but it should be soon as it's due to be phased out apparently...

I've yet to try scrabble - but there is an app: Here...
