Only kidding, **** it to hell and back.

Obviously, a wet May means we'll have a glorious June, July and August. 🙂

First World problems and all that, but in May, I shouldn't be getting wet and windswept on my 15 yard commute across the garden, surely...

As bad as it is here I don't think I'd get to the top of a hill. There's no way I'm putting a leg over a bike.

I'm still not sure if the incredible weather last year was the biggest waste of a good year ever, or the only thing that kept us sane.

Yup, **** it into a cocked hat. Should be spending every waking hour I'm not working outside at this time of year.

I blame my mate though, his much anticipated new bike arrived recently, so this is clearly his fault.

Oh how I laughed just now when CRC sent me their mailshot.

Mud is as bad as it was in January and Feb.

We're supposed to have dusty trails and sunny evening pootles to the pub. Instead, I'm cold and wet. Grrr.

Yep. It's really ****ing getting me down actually! Just rediscovering my love of bikes after a number of years away. Shiny new Hunt wheelset rocked up yesterday and the chances of me using them this weekend is nil!

Don't stress peeps, we need to sacrifice this summer, it's all part of a bigger plan.

We need a wet, cold and miserable summer so that all the people having staycations have an awful time and mess off abroad next year.

Agreed and because it has been so wet, the trails are both muddy and overgrown. Normally I can live with being stung to buggery because the trails are at least dry.

Especially compared to last year which was exceptionally nice.

I'm still wearing winter fleeces, normally they all go in the loft and summer wear comes out....

If I could post videos here I could show a video clip from my window where there was dramatic thunder, lightning and really heavy rain which suddenly transitioned into hail and then beautiful still blue sunshine.

The entire video is less than 3 minutes long

It can #### right off, I'm so far behind with the mowing ,I'm 2 cuts down at most of my gardens- it's costing me money. plus all the damage to clear up.

A couple of days ago after finishing I looked out of the window at a lovely blue sky and thought to head out on the bike. Got changed and hit the auto open on the garage door which happens to be facing the other way from the window I had just used.
Then hit close again and went to get changed.
A truly vicious hailstorm was just sweeping through.

Nope, I'm very thankful for this weather actually..! <hides>

Vaccine fatigue means I'm off the bike anyway, but we have horses and we need the grass to grow, and for the farmers to be able to get two cuts of hay this year as the weather last year meant that they only got one cut, which meant by the end of this winter everywhere was running out of hay and jacking their prices up. Two more weeks of rain, then a glorious summer please! 😂

I swear its getting vindictive. I sit looking out at bright sunny skies and think... I'll mow the lawn, I'll go for a ride, I'll walk the dogs. As soon as I step outside it rains.

Go back in, the sun comes out.......

So not riding enough, dogs pissed off and lawn looks a mess.

My plans for May did not include having to clean mud off the gravel bike every time I went out. In fact they didn't involve mud at all. That said I don't mind a bit of rain, all part of the fun. The wind however can **** right off that's just no fun at all.

I'm currently based 300m north of Farnham Park. I cycle through the park into the hospital and to wander around town when nothing else is happening.
PB up the hill on the way back yesterday thanks to that tailwind.
Also the benefits of being deep in the woods to the North with the good draining ground is great.
But up around the exposed area of Caesar's Camp or over at Hankley Common? Well this weather can just **** right off.

Not only did I have to cancel going to see family in Prestatyn this weekend for the first time since last July due to Covid rules, but getting out on my bike locally looks to be a challenge due to gale force winds and rain... The longest day of the year is in a month FFS!

Yay, more days off in the turbo cave, sick of the virtual scenery in Zwift this extended winter. 😡

I'd planned to do the KAW next weekend.

Looking at the pictures on the FB group, it needs to stop raining and be dry & windy for the rest of the week, otherwise I'm going to have to book B&Bs and not camp...

I'm considering putting a mud tyre back on for the weekend. Hopefully that will have the required effect and we'll get a nice high-pressure front come in again.

At least it dries quickly at this time of year.

Ah, who am I kidding, it is a bit shit.

It's just grim.

I'm injured so I can't run. Running in wind and rain is tolerable, sometimes even enjoyable. Cycling is just horrible.

I've never spent so much time on the turbo.

Forecast is set to improve after the weekend.

I can't even Zwift as the garage is full of materials to re-landscape the garden which we can't do because of the dreadful weather.

Hmph.
Had perfect sunny crisp weather fur the Disley crew ride on Wednesday this week. ( After it pissed it down most of the day)

Did the Eastern Edges route with the family on Tuesday in beautiful sunshine. Could see the menacing clouds just to the south.

Had a bit of light rain at the weekend on our Peak round, but not much.

Nice enough for the Wednesday ride the week before.

Lovely sun at Llandegla the weekend before.

And nice weather fur Wednesday ride the week before that.

And georgous weather for the Lakes Three passes on 1 May.

Been a very lucky month. Generally shit weather, but always been excellent ( bar 1) the days I've been out.

Well happy ,🥳🥳🥳

I think it’s rained for a month solidly in the FOD now.

Ironically, a month ago this weekend, we were at the end of a warm, dry spell. Few of us had given up digging as it was too dry & it was hard to ride in a train as there was so much dust. Proper shorts & t-shirts riding weather 🤦‍♂️

I remember the forecast, thinking how much we needed a ‘bit’ of rain to help the garden & trails. Now, it’s disgusting. It’s Dec/Jan levels of slop, yet warm(ish) so I’m head to toe in waterproofs, and soaked in sweat.

I’ve barely bothered this last month.

Sorry - during that nice, warm dry spell I bought some new shorts. The day after the weather changed. Probably my fault & I apologise whole heartedly.

In recompense, I have just had delivered an artic-winter weight wooly jumper I bought in the sales. Whilst it is perfect for today's weather, hopefully it will herald in a change to warmer weather forthwith.

I’d planned to do the KAW next weekend.

We were due to start on Monday. Postponed. I've ridden enough multi-day events in the rain and wind to have served my time. Do it in July when we should have better weather.

I do feel vindicated in my decision NOT to cancel my Zwift subscription in May.

Riding MTBs outside tho... after the last couple, I'm going to need a whole load of small animal sacrifices and powerful incantations to summon even a soupcon of enthusiasm 😉

smust be my fault for fitting summer tyres last month when it was as dry as July.
Now the winter mud is back.
Was riding into work this morning and getting seriously blown offline whilst going round corners, nearly ****ted a lampost in the park.

looks like the jetstream is waaay to far south, and when it does come north it disintegrates. Might have a few warm days over the bank holiday hopefully.

This is the GEFS forecast chart. The temperature line at the top is the temperature at an altitude where the pressure is 850hPa, so roughly 10C less than ground level ish. The bottom line is rainfall. The multiple lines are the different forecast runs. So this shows it warming up, but also that there is likely to be only a few spots of rain here and there. I can live with that.

Coldest April since the ice age and now the wettest May since Noah. Even the weather people look apologetic each time they’re on.
Wind from the north all of April with a blocking high and then the floodgates opened letting in the delayed Atlantic storms.
Supposed to getting better fir the bank holiday.

It can really go and * do one right * now.

Wind doesn't really bother me, and a bit of rain in may is to be expected.

But ffs - the amount of rain we've had along with the cold - its a * joke.

And after the past winter, we really needed  decent summer.

April teased us with some great conditions, now its all gone to *.

I've ridden MTB 70 days in a row (today will be 71). The first 60 or so were dry AF, with the occasional show shower that cleared up without leaving any mud. It was awesome.

The last 10 days or so have been shite, but glad I got a new waterproof from Decathlon when I got the trail pants. In Chopwell last night it was so wet there wasn't really any mud. Just really dirty water with no clag to it.

Mainly not giving a shit about the greenhouse gas emissions?

I try to be as environmentally aware as I can but that's rubbish. Bad weather isn't caused by climate change, it's always been there. Climate change simply increases the chance of weather for which we are not prepared, and increases its severity. Blaming a specific weather event on climate change is not very sensible - it's not accurate and it's too easy to turn on its head - when we get a good year or few years people will use the same argument to deny there's a problem.

April was amazing TBF, and I got loads of riding in.

Which is why I'm not too fussed about a spot of rain now actually.

And it does look like clearing up by middle of next week then staying dry for a bit.

It really is starting to get annoying now! Was at Windhill yesterday and if it wasn't for the bluebells you could easily have mistaken it for February. Ground was soft, muddy puddles everywhere, biting wind, trees thinking of falling over as the ground was so soft for the roots and a stream running down the bridleway push-up casually washing away the new gravel surface. We even called it a day after 4 hours due to us both having trouble staying warm despite loads of layers and waterproofs.

It all went to pot when I fitted my summer tyres to the bikes and removed the rear mudguards.

Sorry.

Yep it's the cold that's getting to me, max temperatures of 11 degrees next week in East Lancs, that's not late May temps, cold isn't normally and issue for me but I do need a bit of warmth for some of the year.
