On my other halves Yeti, rear tyre.
Money is an object for her, is this repairable? Not sure of size of hole obvs.
Thanks guys.
Is there supposed to be a picture?
Damn it, what's the url of the site that converts google links?! I've closed the tab and don't remember it's name.
Cheers!, done.
It's in an area of the tyre that can be repaired, so it's possible. How much is a repair these days? I haven't had one done for years and a part-worn may make more economic sense.
It is far enough away from the sidewall for a repair if the hole is not too large. Take it to a reputable tyre dealer.
Short answer is you won't know until whatever it is comes out and you know the size of the hole.
What's actually through the tyre? A nail with a big flat top? Hard to tell on a phone. Looks like it could be a big hole.
Last repair I had done was £15 including balancing
It more than likely is repairable but I'd be concerned about the cracking in the treads of the tyre to the left of the offending object. A tyre company may decline to complete a repair because of them. Sorry for the poor news.
It’s knackered. Never mind the nail it’s cracked.
You can get a repair kit from amazon that will plug that up from the outside - Like the anchovies for MTB tyres. But its not recommended.
A tyre place may repair it.
However - the cracks. I doubt that tyre would pass an MOT. I wouldnt want to drive it - puncture or not.
As lesgrandepotato said, it looks cracked between the treads. How old is the tyre, it might be due for replacement anyway.
We all want to get the most of our money, but modern tyres only last 5ish years, after which the rubber perishes and should be replaced.
However – the cracks. I doubt that tyre would pass an MOT
Have you read mot guidance on what constitutes a failure ?
In 2015 my wife got an MOT advisory for cracked tyres. In 2016 it wasn't mentioned but one was apparently near the legal limit. In 2017 that same tyre was reported at 2mm and still cracked (but not mentioned again) so still not a failure. All done by the same garage. At that point we bought 4 new tyres at 7 years and 33k miles old.
Yeah, we got an advisory for cracks in the base of the treads on our car just a couple of weeks ago. It looks fairly worn though, (but no wear indicators on your photo's) I suspect repairing that is only delaying replacement for a few months.
Regardless of whether it would pass an mot, or could be repaired, I’d rather have a new one than drive on that.
That’s just my opinion, ymm(literally)v.
Thanks for the advice guys. I've passed it all on and we'll take it to a garage tomorrow.
Original tyre, she thinks, on a 2016 car. So yeah, might just have had its day. No advisories on last mot.
