You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Deleted cookies to fix another problem on Chrome and ventured here. This is what a new visitor to the site sees:

The bit in red is the actual content. I don't want to point out the obvious, but if you're wondering why subscribers are going down it might be because new visitors can't actually see anything. This is on a high resolution display too; on a smaller screen it'd be even worse.
That's if they go straight to the forum thread. The front page looks ok.
I see this, if I go straight to a forum thread. Not nice, but easy enough to see what the content is.
I'd say it's down to the functionality (ie. the lost bits that have never been sorted out) if subs are down.

The desktop site on a mobile was unusable on Saturday - it kept trying to re size itself every 3 seconds, I gave up after five minutes of trying to post.
The Resize thing is such a wind up!
I wait for a bit for the page to load and then just as I go to click on something the page moves and I've clicked on an advert! (which, incidentally, loads as quick as you like and doesn't resize once!)
You must have some filthy bookmarks...
When did Friday goods become pay per view?
I paid for Grit.cx because I could see it was a worthwhile investment.
I don't feel that this is.
Yea mine does that, the site half loads with no text, then loads again with text. Then just long enough for you to skim down the in-line adverts appear and you lose where you were!
Fresh Goods Friday is not paywalled.
Magazine content is paywalled as is the category 'Online features' by default. Although some of the online features, including the one at the top of the front page have been derestricted.
Soon, the metered paywall will allow non registered users (guests) access to a limited number of other stories, like reviews. Registered users will get a higher level of access and subscribers will get unlimited access.
The news category will be all access for everyone.
Is it a particular FGF that you can't access? I can have a look at it. It may be that it was miss-categorised and is behind the paywall when it shouldn't be.
The images and ads load as they come in to view. This means pages load much faster as the unseen part of the page (images and ads) down't load until they have to. This means less data used per user and a much faster site. However, it does sometimes lead to page load stutters, especially if your connection is not particularly fast or you scroll very quickly.
Hope that explains a few things.
BTW. Subs are not down. Ad revenues are down. But not subs.
@Mark Couldn't you load a blank space for the images, then fill it later?
Since we're discussing functionality, there doesn't appear to be a tag to restrict searches to a particular forum. So chat, wanted ads, for sale, bike discussion and articles are jumbled up along with adverts - and I'm a subscriber.
There appears to be a cutoff date for older magazine material such as reviews, which doesn't appear to be available on the site.
Mark - Fresh Goods Friday is not paywalled.
My error, I thought the summer thing by Chipps was a quirky named FGF
As for the text loading, on my phone, the page loads in something like Times new roman, then totally blanks out for 5 seconds then reloads in its normal font then it performs as TINAS says.
You must have some filthy bookmarks…
Nah, they just give away where I work.
All these pop ups and ads etc are grtting far too much.
Might be moving over to mtbr at this rate, at least other users reply with exact info in most cases.
😝
I have to say that whilst adverts in genera are fine in my books, to me, the site is dying on its arse with the adverts being so intrusive in the manner of how they affect the usability of the site.
As already said, the constant resizing preventing clicking on links on a phone. Â Its just so messy that after a few threads it just makes me think why bother ... and i drift somewhere else.
Was using another forum the other day and I the responsiveness of it was magnitudes better than here, cause of no ads. It really struck me just how much things are dragged down by waiting on the loading of ads.

I hope you never see the bbc site from outside the UK. There are more ads than content sometimes...
overall this might not be what you want as you remember the old days but it really is not so bad. Hell sometimes when I try to use Wikipedia I have to close two or three banners then scroll to get away from the begging notice.
this is the world we live in. Wait until net neutrality really cuts out and smaller sites are begging for bandwidth.

None of them are for T&A though.
