Had it for about 4 weeks, sneezing, snot and really unwell... had pneumonia in the summer.
Its getting to be hard work... doing all the right things diet etc.
Anyone had any magic remedies.
Just coming our of 4 weeks of it myself, so no magic bullet other than over the counter remedies and time...
Suspect I had multiple things going on at once (as a teacher viruses are an occupational hazard) but sore throat, no voice, constant fatigue, coughing, headache, sinus infection (radioactive looking mucus!), postnasal drip.
Only the last couple of days the cough has died down and I've had the energy to stay up past 10 (have been sleeping for 10/11 hours a night plus naps for the last two weeks) and not succumb to naps during the day too. Hopefully that's it now...
If you're not averse to drugs, get some proper pseudoephedrine from the chemist. Honey, lemon and hot water a couple of times a day help with the throat a little for me too.
It's horrid, breathing difficulties and all sorts here, 0nly solace is that once you're on the way up you really notice it.
15 days into the worse cold I’ve had for about 15yrs.
It’s given me a massive kicking, way more than covid in the summer did. Just been relentless.
It now seems to be holding a last stand mostly in my left sinus.
thered
It’s horrid, breathing difficulties and all sorts here
Yeah, missed that out of my list. At the worst a couple of weeks ago, struggling up the stairs was leaving me out of breath and dizzy every time.
(negative on LFTs)
Its hard work
One of the biggest irritations is I haven't ridden at all in December thanks to whatever I've had.
(I know on STW it's odd to talk about actually riding bikes but still...)
Me too. I’ve not felt 100% for about 8 weeks now. Currently I have a cough which reminds me of when I had pneumonia, a horrible sore throat and fatigue. Anything remotely resembling fitness has long gone, which is utterly depressing because exercise and mental health go hand in hand.
Yep, I've had it, well still got it, too.
Felt like rubbish for the past week or so, taken to my bed for a a few hours in the afternoon on a couple of days prior to Christmas due to feeling absolutely knackered.
Fought it with Lemsip, Day and Night Nurse, the occasional hot toddy and I'm starting to feel a bit better.
Did some gentle phys yesterday and felt like I was going to collapse, much like post covid 12 months ago.
Frustrating indeed as I've kept myself ticking over in preparation for all of the Strathpuffers that have been been postponed for the last few years. Couple of weeks to go until game time and my training / prep has gone completely out of the window!
Caught it a week ago Saturday having a night out for the first time in 3 years - did a COVID test yesterday and there was a faint line, so looks like I’ve had both. Just a head cold and snot now.
Can I add another symptom. Crazy sweating in the nights. The worst I've known for a long time. Soaking wet sheets and duvet. Absolutely disgusting. Fortunately my wife had already moved in to another room.
That was a few weeks ago unfortunately whilst on holiday in Cordoba.
Been back a few weeks only to catch covid (for the first time) the week before Christmas.
In the dog house as I promptly passed it on to my wife and both boys.
On and off since it first ruined our holiday in Loch Tay in October.
Currently been bad with sinuses and throat the last week, so its ruined Christmas with me just constantly on a range of throat sweets and max everything sinus etc tablets. Aswell as throat and nose my stomach is killing from coughing and hacking up lovely lumps of gunk.
Actually seems like it might be easing somewhat today, hope I've not spoken too soon.
Been -ve all the time on LFTs
I’ve been using smelling salts to clear out my sinuses. I’ve not had all the symptoms but it has no plans on leaving. Symptoms are worse than covid!
Yep 6 weeks now and still feeling shite, the symptoms have disappated but still got the cough that just won't go.
I was going to do the festive 500 but that was impossible, not sleeping properly because of the cough, then catnapping during the day which means I'm not sleeping at night.
Nothing seems to be touching it, sudafed, honey and ginger, fisherman's friends !!!!!
I know loads of people who have had this.
Super sleepy all the time, with violent vomit inducing coughing episodes
Aching joints, typically the legs and old injuries or operations suddenly started hurting again
Plus they look like death, really white whilst running a temperature.
I think its this seasons flu bug, as ive had the jab and worked with 4 people who have had it somehow i have managed to avoid it
I guess you’ve all done tests? I had a slight cough and a few sneezes then on Xmas eve i felt a little bit shivery but nothing I would consider a worry. On Xmas day we were due to meet the aged relatives so just to be sure I took a test which came back positive. Still got the occasional cough, feel absolutely fine but still testing positive.
It’s getting boring now!
Been testing -ve and had both flu and covid boosters.
A reasonable night's sleep would be ace. I actually was sound asleep sat bolt upright on the sofa yesterday 'watching' a film. That's amazing for me 😂 But as I said to my wife last night I dread going to bed as it's just night long torture of throat, sinuses, hacking up stuff and no sleep. I thought of just staying on the sofa to save her.
Son has had a deep cough on and off for weeks now too, wife has been fine 🤷
I got it last week, kicked it with cold exposure. Cold shower every day and a couple sea swims to kickstart the immune system, get the blood going and move from a mental state of feeling sorry for myself to ready to kick this thing’s ass. Followed by a long Xmas day afternoon sleep to let the above do it’s thing
Now feeling great
Ok wim.
Was the most I'll I've been for years about 4 weeks ago. Turned out to be Covid.
Had a cold for a week at the start of November, took two weeks to shift, caught some form of it again in the middle of December and managed to shift it (or so I thought) by the 23rd. Went out on the bike for a couple of hours which was probably a bad idea.
Two days for Christmas in the ice box known as my girlfriends parents house and I’ve now developed a barking cough and my nose is bunged up again!
My only solice is that I have the first week in January booked off, so hopefully time for riding then!
Prob don’t help myself as I refuse to take ibruprofen until I’m really really bad!
It now seems to be holding a last stand mostly in my left sinus
Yeah, me too. Why does it do that? You'd have thought it'd be all or nothing, but no. It's just the left sinus.
Not myself but quite a few colleagues.
Maybe you have taken something over the past few years that's damaged your immune system...
They probably just lack your excellent genes Davey.
Weird but doubtless coincidental, I sit here recovering with a still blocked left sinus...
It sounds like your are describing COVID?
Typing from hospital bed, owing to COVID!
I had a stomach bug, followed by a cold, followed by a sinus infection, followed by another cold. Bored now.
My morning ritual is to spend an hour expelling the night's build-up. Variously hacking up lung butter, blowing my nose and vomiting piles of what is essentially snot. I've never known anything quite so... productive.
Sounds a lot of manflu going on this thread only joking , I had a week of it just a cold and not having had one for 3 years or so I felt rough for two to three days max , no gunk getting brought up just sneezing, sore watery nose and generally run down
Paracetamol did the trick for me, I was too tight to buy my usual bottle of green stuff to swig
Had something sounding like this for the two weeks running up to Christmas.
Just a constant snotty bleugh feeling, foggy brain, but I was sort of able to function propped up by cold and flu caplets for a few hours at a time, very tired, lots of sleep, woke up feeling like shite every time.
The second week had me hacking up neon phlegm every few hours. I avoided cheese and dairy just to try and minimise sources of snot generation.
Just about over it now about 3.5 weeks on, went for an hour and a half steady ride on boxing day, still hacking up the odd lump every couple of days, strangely my appetite seems to have reduced a bit too, not necessarily a problem.
Yes had this over a week now. Started as sore throat, than overnight wham high temperature, night sweats, feels like I'm swallowing razor blades, feels like back of nostrils are on fire when breathing through nose. Zero energy, even turning over in bed is a massive effort and causes eruption of hacking cough which leaves you breathless.
I haven't had cold/ flu symptoms for about 4 years ( never had covid, still testing -ve). Had to cancel visiting family and freinds and planned rides. So frustrating I'd forgotten how crap a virus can make your body feel.
Thought I was starting to feel better today as had bit of an appetite, but by 3pm done in from just pottering around the house.
