So, I'm at the end of my EE contract and fancy a Galaxy S5. Orange want close to £40 for a pay monthly contract with limited data, texts and calls. Did a spot of internetting and mobilephonesdirect do a better package, also with free phone for £30.99.
Tried to get Orange to match (they couldn't) and they warned me that their phones are programmed to make best use of the EE signal, whilst third party phones aren't. This will lead to my phone eating its way through batteries as it constantly seeks signal.
Any truth in this?
Hogwash.
I call BS on EE's part?
That was my first reaction too. Reckon I'll call phonesdirect first thing Monday. Been with Orange since I was about 20 - can I keep my phone number do you think?
You can port your number to any network. Just call your existing provider and ask for a PAC (Port Access Code)
Ta. There was a checkbox during online checkout which purports to transfer the number. It specifically ordered me not to ask for the PAC code... Hope it works as my number is all over £1000s worth of business stationery / online directories!
Yep, its bollocks alright. Typical sales stuff im afraid. Just be aware that you wont be able.to port orange to orange so check which network mobiles direct are selling you onto. Interestingly though, you can port orange to EE.
The new network is also EE... Hope that won't be an issue.
Oh, and its port authorisation code btw. I also very much doubt that the checkbox will work. Youre cancelling your conntract. No way any network is going to allow that to happen without direct contact with you.
Pretty sure I can tell you exactly what will happen here. You'll end up with two contracts running simultaneously. Firstly because, form what you've said, you haven't got a pac form Orange and therefore you haven't cancelled or set notice for cancellation with them. Secondly, mobiles direct or whoever, will get paid way more for a new connection than an upgrade so that's almost certainly what you'll get. Not the end of the worry though as long as you were definitely with orange and not ee previously (ignore what it said on your screen - who was your contract with when you signed it?) you'll just end up paying two contracts for a month.
My contract with Orange / EE (thought they were the same thing these days?!) finished in August.
I did the same last year. 12 months with GiffGaff and I'm very happy.
You should always be able to port your number. Sales droids may tell you you can't because they get more commission on a 'new' contract over a port.
My thoughts on what you've posted:
1) 3rd party providers have ALWAYS given me a better deal than dealing directly with networks
2) Porting your number over is easy peasy, ask Giffgaff (or anyone) for a free PAYG SIM after getting a PAC from your network. Just before your 30 day notice period is over transfer your number over to PAYG so you can take advantage of the new customer deals available and then get the PAC from Giffgaff and go to your new contract - or even stay with the same provider as long as youve Giffgaff'd for a few days
3) Ive just dumped EE for a Galaxy S5 on another network. They offered me an S5 with 2 Gigs of data for 28 quid a month with unlimited everything else - this seemed to be a pretty good deal - however Ive got the same phone on Vodafone via a 3rd party for 26 quid a month with 7 Gigs of data plus unlimited the rest as well as 30 quid back via Quidco
Power to the consumer 🙂
Just went the other way from VF to EE.
VF signal was pants no 4G was lucky to get 1meg, I'm now on EE 4G constantly getting plus 15meg best is 25meg overall happy so far.
