You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
In contrast to the other thread, what haven't you changed, or went ahead and did anyway?
I still don't have a new patio
And we went ahead and got a dog anyway.
The first one still causes me issues daily, the second one has worked out brilliantly.
What have you done that ignored advice given here, and how did it work out?
I've never nailed sausages into someone's lawn.
I've yet to spend money on hookers.
Not been with Louise behind Nationwide in Swindon…
DIY?
I’ve yet to spend money on hookers.
There's an obvious omission here.
Free hookers probably aren't much cop.
In seriousness,
In the big long list of things that wind me up more than they should (cross-post to Disproportionally Cross), I genuinely don't understand this mentality. And it's not just STW, it's people.
"I have this issue."
OK, you need to do/buy [thing].
"I think I'm going to do [other thing]."
No. Under no circumstances do [other thing], you need to do [thing].
"I've done [other thing] and now it's ****ed."
Argh.
It's almost as irritating as "I've bought this, is it any good?" Well it's a bit sodding late now if it isn't, squire. These people aren't looking for advice, they're looking for validation and it's a waste of time for all concerned.
I bought an Ebike several years ago and haven't lost any fitness or become fat and lazy.
I haven't bought an e-bike ! 🙂
Have no time for, can't be arsed with, in no particular order:
Any gearbox, hub, set of pulleys that uses a belt, bit of old rope, string some grand-dad's old braces to either drive the back wheel and/or make it easier/harder to pedal.
Anything other than liquid lube in a dropper bottle to place a drop of lube on a chain.
Despite anyone on here extolling the virtues of said hub, bits of auld string, or hard wax.
I bought an Orange electric mountain bike with a Shimano motor.
Changed my opinion that "bike-packing" in all its forms, but especially those that require me to sleep on the ground under a tarp of questionable waterproofiosity while eating food from a bag that's been heated over a small weedy naked flame in water is anything other than a awful waste of a night in a decent pub with rooms.
Some bike-packers yesterday

Planted a birch tree near my house. I, and the baby robins are very happy with it.
Bought a new bike from the warranty-swerving pariah, Giant...
I asked for some advice on riveting as I know there are lot of folk on here with such skills. When I said it was to reattach the head of an ice axe for climbing the general consensus was 'don't do it you'll die'. The axes have lasted 6 years so far and I've done several for mates that are also still going strong.
Definitely still sitting when wiping
Haven’t changed- still 26”, still using tubes, still 3 x 9, Still got my own ideas about Israel. Enough to shut the thread down? Too much bicycle retro?
@cougar are you describing a member’s constant technology issues?
No-one specifically. I'd be hard pressed to single out such a person in any case.
Everyone told me I’d die, but I went ahead and bought a Yeti anyway.
Definitely still sitting when wiping
Says ‘reeksy’
@wheelsonfire1 I am the same for my mountain bike, but I have TWO sets of bar ends on it 🙂 (one is in the middle, think spinaci bars)
Panda
Buying stuff that isn’t worth it.
Continue to regret not adding winky smilies (I did indeed wash my legs before STW).
Anything other than liquid lube in a dropper bottle to place a drop of lube on a chain.
Amen to this, chain waxing looks like the biggest waste of time ever to me and I could not be bothered even if I was stuck on a desert island with nothing except a chain waxing kit.
Also, trying to ride my road bike as fast as I can with some pals
Didn't get any bitcoin after reading about on here in 2012? Still haven't either..
Can understand why some members of the public voted for Brexit.
It would seem several members are now seriously flirting with the sword of damacles.
I'm considering not spending £220 on a Dualit toaster. This is going against STW advice but will I regret it?
I have never bought a Skoda or taken a job in IT.

Plenty of space next to me on the naughty step!
I bought a Kenwood toaster for £18. It does toast and crumpets perfectly well.
I bought a 2 door coupe and a seasucker rack.
chain waxing looks like the biggest waste of time ever
It saves loads of time!

Budge up budge up! It's busy here on the naughty step.
After being thoroughly unimpressed by a dualit we bought a Tefal toast and egg. Some 15+ years later it broke, we're now 3 years into the replacement, at this rate I'll be dead before the dualit would have been the better financial choice and it would still have been rubbish at hard, soft and poached eggs 😀
Related to the "Bikepacking" answer, I still think that a rack + panniers is a better way of carrying a load on a bike than an oversize saddlebag and a frame bag that stops you using your bottle cages.
I’ve never had a wood burner or bummed my neighbours dog.
I’m considering not spending £220 on a Dualit toaster. This is going against STW advice but will I regret it?
If you don’t buy it you will never know.
FWIW folks who visit us and have not used a Dualit properly beforehand are bemused. And SHOCKED it does not pop up when done.
Bought a frame from planetX/on one and it turned up in a few days down under...built up fine rides great and is up to just short of 20,000km without having to write ranty posts...also got some on one underpants and they work well and I've not had to shim them
I haven’t bought a Transporter van… or any other van that is better or drives more like a car.
Bought several Yeti's
Bought rohloffs
Used hot melt chain wax
Used a trailer for "bikepacking"
🙂
Still haven't aken a side on who's right/who's wrong when 60% of threads on this site turn to arguments and willy waving about brexit with whatabouts and gotchas, that's usually when I recline back into my seat and try to wrap my head around why people still think arguing on the internet over divise topics achieves anything and is actually successful in changing someone elses POV, then after a while of scratching my chin and staring out of the window, I put it down to the fact that people just like to blow hot air and get into internet arguments cause they're bored, are on singletrackworld at work and have nothing better to do, or are retired and have nothing better to do.
And I still haven't signed up to Premium Bond Draws
Or bought a gravel bike
I always read the TV and film recommendation threads and universally disagree with the opinions expressed. Specifically, I have never followed the advice to watch an action film.
