You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Off in a week for a 5 day break with Mstomhoward, will be a bit weird for me as it's my 1) first city break 2) first holiday in about 15 years where riding bikes has not been the sole reason for the trip.
Any nice restaurants, bars, scenic places? Ideally quieter, definitely avoiding all the stag and hen do's...
Museum of torture, just by Charles Bridge which is also well worth a visit.
The Black OX - old style beer house where every pint does charity work

We were there a couple of years ago for a long weekend. Walking tour (free with our taxi ride from the airport) was a great way to get to know the highlights, we then spent the next few days going back to some of them and exploring the city. Jewish holocaust "museum" is well worth a visit, very humbling and moving.
Go up the clock tower in town and be sure to be there when it strikes,
We had dinner here one night and it was fabulous, the seven course tasting menu with matching wines, we still talk about it
Try the soup that's served in a loaf of bread, it's remarkably nice

Enjoy! Beer is cheaper than water there,,,

We went in early June for the 3rd time.
Just walk around. Loads to see and do.The usual haunts are Charles Bridge, old Town Square and the castle. All are walkable.
The bars/cafes/restaurants in Stare Mesto (old town square) are well expensive, walk for another 10 minutes and prices are back to really cheap. Food and drink are a lot cheaper than here, typically £25 for 2 courses and drinks for 2. Beer was £1 for 500ml outside of the centre.
We stayed in the Karlin district, which, when booking it, I thought was a bad move, as I wanted city centre, however, it was a good move, 1 mile away, so only 15 minutes walk, and the bars/cafes were good near the hotel, serving mainly Czech customers - bars in the centre have multi language menus, these didnt, but our phrase book helped a lot, and many younger folk talk a little english, far better than my rudimentary Czech.
Sights - the whole place has loads of good architecture. I really like Marysokovo rail station, we went past there every day just to get a drink and a cake - lovely cream cakes for 30Kr - about 11pence. Get a train from there to one of the towns in the Country. We went to the Rail Museum, 1 hour from town, in a little village with one tiny bar - great to see such things.
I found the castle disappointing, but go for the free changing of the Guard at noon every day, you can walk around the grounds without paying. The hill walking up to it is pretty steep, it is used in a current TV car advert.Maybe get the tram up and walk down.
Oh, it can get stinking hot there. 32 degrees+ in early June.
There are a number of street markets around, we saw a good band (The Brownies) busking in Namesti Republiky market.
Go to the Municipal house for tea/coffee and cake. The building is excellent. Eat in the restaurant if you're feeling rich.
A novelty is Vytopna Railway Restaurant, at the top end of Wencelas Square to have your drinks brought to you on a model railway truck. Wencelas Sqaure is pretty dull, but there is an excellent early 1900's arcade on the LHS (looking down the hill).
The 'old Czech ham' sellers are a rip off. They are all over the place, you get a big chunk of gammon and 2 little bits of bread for something like £8. We tried it and wish we hadnt bothered. Same for the ice creams in the pastry cones - apparently they are traditional, but we didnt see them when we were last there 8 years ago. They are eatable, but expensive for an ice cream.
Torture museums (there is more than one) - it's an holiday, why would you want to see that?
If you want to see a classical concert, there are numerous each day at different venues, most catering for the tourist market. The ones at the Municipal House seem to be the best.Opera - cant stand it, so never looked into it, but there are 2 big opera houses.

War/Military museum, Jewish Cemetary and the tower covered in babies with TVs for heads were memorable visits.
