Looking at 3 days riding through the week we are up there, so ideas for another 3 days to entertain a 12 year old and an 8 year old. It's about 8 years since we went up to that part of the world so I'm guessing things have changed/improved/declined, and the kids aren't quite there with "stunning scenery for it's own sake yet".
Thinking of walks, beaches, swimming pools, maybe cinema if it's wet, animal/farm parks
IIRC every night is fight night in the local pubs.
Portpatrick is nice. As is Kirkcudbright and the icecream place/park near there... Cream o' Galloway.
Did a massive ride starting from Glentrool which is a nice little centre away from the technical stuff.

Beach at Moss Yard, Kockbex and Sandgreen are all ace and worth visits, with varying sand or rockpooling.
Glentrool has walks and biking aplenty, a lovely spot.
Clatteringshaws visitors centre, climb the wee hill behind, head down the raiders road (dirt track) and picknic by the river.
Galloway Sailing centre hires canoes, sailing boats etc. A great, great spot (and happy memories of student summer jobs with the to-be mrs_oab for me...)
Some nice local gardens (Glenluce IIRC) have palm trees etc.
A day out visiting all sorts down Isle of Whithorn - it really is a place that feels like you need to just sloooooooow down. Bookshops, cafe's, nice beaches, random gardens/artists/potteries all down the way, Whithorn itself is also nice for a mooch.
Some nice small hills to walk - get out OS map and follow nose. Ben John, Cairnharrow etc are nice (and great for Adder spotting).
Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse and Castle Douglas are all lovely. The road from Kirkcudbright round to Brighouse and along the coast to Knockbrex is worth exploring - loads of bays, walks and lovelyness. BIG crabs to be found in one of them...

Cream of Galloway was a great laugh when we went 5 years ago with some proper old school rides/slides etc that didn't tick all the boring hse boxes. We did love st ninians cave, stunning beach. We were also in town when the tattoo was on at Kirkcudbright. We also did some of the local castles, one near Kirkcudbright called threave castle, where you have to get a boat over the river/moat to get to which the kids loved.
One of our best ever holidays.

Took our six year old whilst staying across in Portpatrick this summer and crammed four different sessions in to one day; kayaking, paddle boarding, climbing and archery. He had such a blast we went back two days later to do more kayaking. Portpatrick is worth a visit; cracking fish and chip van on the quayside.
For something completely different the Red Kite feeding station at Laurieston is well worth a visit at feeding time.

Gem museum in Creetown is OK in an emergency.
The pub from The Wicker Man is across the road too, bar is still pretty much the same.
If you can get a day off, Glentrool purple route is a great way to explore.
