You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Am travelling to NY soon, would be great to get a few alternative recommendations for must see places/attractions - but perhaps but more interestingly, alternative hidden gems.
I'm thinking speakeasy's, hidden live music, unusual buildings, incredible diners, that kind of thing.
Have been to Manhattan before so have done Broadway, Empire State, Staten Island ferry, Strawberry Fields, Guggenheim, etc - we have plans to visit Dumbo and also have a couple of gigs booked - im just wondering how much spice STW can throw into mix. Particularly amongst the other boroughs.
There's a place in MidTown called Black Tap Burgers that do these "Crazy Shakes" -people queue 3 times round the block to get in. You can get slices of cake on top of some of them.....I know I know. You were probably looking for recommendations on walks/cycles, but you're on holiday 🙂

You didn't list it but I'm sure you've been up Rockafeller? I found the best time to go up was just before sunset and you can see all the boroughs switching their lights on as the place goes dark. Better view than Empire State.
Go to the Le Parker Meridien Hotel in Mid Town. Walk to the right of Reception and you'll see a short corridor which on the right at the end has a hidden burger bar called "Burger Joint". For me, this was the best burger in NY (closely followed by Shake Shack). It also has Brooklyn beer.
The bar at the top of Rockefeller Plaza is free and has the best views - you can go outside.
Go to Williamsburgh and find the Wythe Hotel. Dont eat in the restaurant. Instead, go upstairs to the bar which has great views of the Manhattan skyline, great drinks menu and brilliant beef sliders.
If you get a clear sunny day, head upper East and look for the Roosevelt Island cable car. You get some cool views and a Metro Card will work on it.
Explore Brooklyn (not just Williamsburg). How about free Ikea ferry to Red Hook? Here's a link what I just found, . https://www.tripsavvy.com/red-hook-brooklyn-views-442800 and I now read "Â Walking to Red Hook is not the best option if you're averse to quiet urban streets." Whilst I'm not remotely averse I'd concur. We walked and felt pretty damn vulnerable down deserted streets of warehouses and wasteground. Recovered over beers.
A few things I enjoyed Sugarcane restaurant in Dumbo was superb. The Intrepid Air and Space museum for 3 hours or so.
The helicopter ride was one of the most amazing things i`ve done, seeing it all from the air, not sure if they are running after the sad loss of lives recently.
Jimmy`s Corner bar on 44th St, cheap but great boxing memorabilia and bargain priced beer. Plus everything else about the place!!
Breakfast of Jackson Hole Steak n Eggs in Ellens stardust diner, superb experience at 7.30am to be in a rammed bar thats going full on.
Walk across the Williamsburg bridge
Great recycled clothing place in Williamsburg near the Brooklyn brewery
Drink in the Blind Tiger, Bleecker St
Breakfast in Amy's Bakery (recommended by Anthony Bourdain as well as me)
K-towns worth a look had the most amazing Korean bbq meal at https://chodanggolnyc.com/
Not far of mid town.
Brooklyn side other half brewerys worth a look...looks like a dive amazing beer.
Map may be of some use.

BillMC - spooky - I'm supposed to be meeting someone across Williamsburg Bridge, called Billy McCarthy.. (long story).
Thanks for the suggestions folks - i'll certainly be looking into a few of them. Korean BBQ you say?..
That bridge goes over a road, a river and a railway and it wobbles. Plus you get the hipster cool single speeders belting up and down, it's a treat and a free one (not many of those in the city). Say hello to Billy!
Failed to mention ' Fish's opposite the Bling Tiger, brilliant food and not over priced. We eat their starters as mains, see ' Eric's salad' on Google. Terrific. Oh and jeans etc from Dave's, Avenue of the Americas.
indeed....we had it because our hotel was right near and walked past it most days always packed in there not with tourists either.
Went to for a pre basketball feed and it was amazing.
All food had heaps of flavor, we ended up getting 5-6 dished and shared.
Essentially they are a 'tofu house' make there own tofu in house. Comes free and a stater.
You could spray the inside of the statue of liberty with goo and then make it come alive with the music of Jackie Wilson to help defeat a ghost who has come out of an old painting in an attempt to take over the body of a Sigourney Weaver's baby!
Just a thought.
The high line park might be worth checking out.
Private tour of the Apollo Theatre (if Billy 'Mr Apollo' Mitchell is still there).
Katz's Deli.
Go to Grand Central station and find the small arched walkways off to the side. You're in the right place when you see where two walkways cross and you look up and see grooves that run from each corner to a point in the middle of the ceiling. Stand in opposite corners to someone, with your backs to each other, and whisper - by weird quirk of architecture you should be able to hold a conversation.
I'll try that!
Moma always gets my vote

Dive bar: Formerly crow (was called the stoned crow) off washington square.
Music venue: Zinc bar - was in a tiny little dungeon with banging jazz - now moved to a slightly nicer place but far better than blue note etc.
Get tickets to the opera at the met - it is a hell of a place even if its not your scene.
Food:Â Blue hill (next to stoned crow), completely amazing small restaurant.
Cafe Boulud: Upper east side old money people watching brilliance. (Fancy restaurant)
Broome Street bar always have a big pot of chilli bubbling away.
Go to Brooklyn and visit Fette Sau if you like barbecue.
my stock answer to this is always La Esquina in Soho. looks like a scruffy diner at street level, but they whisk you downstairs through the kitchen Goodfella's style into the main restaurant which is one of the coolest places ive ever been. its where is discovered Tequila isnt just that rancid poison you get shots of in yer local at home!!
good thread this tho, some really good ideas away from all the usual nonsense.
in addition, food in Spotted Pig and jazz at Smalls
Awesome recommendations still flying in, thanks again folks! I will certainly be frequenting a few of them.
london_lad - forgot to add that your map looks to be pretty useful, cheers!
Edukator - I love to cycle cities, alas, OH is very pregnant this time around so it's looking unlikely
Haggis - Didn't you get the invite in the mail? Its actually on the 4th, at Brooklyn Bridge. We dine at a nearby restaurant that was home to several scenes in Sopranos. Capisce?
Bangaio - lots of great sounding ideas, I like the sound of Zinc!
Mahalo - La Esquina sounds like a great idea - thanks
We did a treasure hunt with work around Greenwich Village.
