We are going to castleton later in the month and looking at things to do with the family. I'll be riding most mornings but wondered if there are some family frendly things to to.

Cant do much walking as son not up to it got trip to the cavens, a currry from the curry caven and a day on the train planned.

Is there anything local like swimming pools, i think i remember a pottery place close by.

Any ideas welcome.

Hathersage has an outdoor Lido. Be there at opening time if it's a nice day as it gets very busy...

Speedwell cavern is well worth it, but to get down and up to the boat is about 100 steps, slightly hard work if someone's not up to walking. If it's a toddler, just tuck them under your arm or take your time.

Thanks, we've seen the lido and hopeing for a warm day. Son did the devils arse cavern and liked it but 100 steps might be too much. He's 10 but has a wonkey hip. For the same reason we have never got to the castle, we had a nice morninb walking to the visitor centre and back (via a pub obvously).

I did a family bike ride along the ridge to hollins cross and back from a layby at the top, the mrs thought i was deliberatley trying to kill them.

A few ideas on this blog post I did a couple of years ago:

If you’re going to Hathersage Pool on a nice day i’d aim to get there at least 15 mins before the session start time as they normally have to turn people away.

There’s an indoor climbing wall at Adventure Hub at the Garden Centre near Bamford if that’s not too physical.

The visitor centre in Castleton sometimes have activities for kids on in the Summer hols.

Chatsworth isn't too far and has a couple of playground areas (one scary one more 10year old)  and a petting farm - used to be a separate and much cheaper admission than the main house - which is worth it but not really for a 10 year old
