Me and the better half are off to that there Manchester for a weekend in a couple of weeks. What fun things can we do there that we can't do anywhere else?(!)

We'll obviously spend a bit of time in the city centre, afternoon tea at Harvey Nicks has been booked for us by a friend, and we are getting the train down, so easily accessible from city centre/public transport is a must...

GO!

Dunno about things you can't do anywhere else - http://www.mosi.org.uk maybe?

Depending on your tolerance of hipsters.... northern quarter has lots of funky little bars/cafes/restaurants and some nice arty shops and galleries.

A drink at cloud 23 bar in the hilton, the bar is nothing special apart from the views over Manchester from the 23 rd floor that are fantastic on a clear day.
A few miles outside city centre the war museum is great and very interesting and thought provoking.

Central Art Gallery-Whitworths closed, Arndale market for a beer then Northern Quarter for more beer at the Blue Pig, etc.

Then China Town for the hidden Thai restaurant that I recommended on here a few weeks ago.

This gives you a circle.

Or Greggs with binners

MOSI, the art gallery, tour of the canals if youre intrested in industrial heritage, visit to victoria station for the same, trip out to the velodrome, day ticket for the trams, and a free bus round the city centre.

Nearly all free.

Do you not fancy Greggs with me then? We could have gone and eaten our Steak Bakes, with a can of Stella in Piccadilly Gardens

You've just missed the Grayson Perry Tapestries exhibition at the City. Which is worth seeing. Finishes today 🙁

But there's the Kevin Cummins exhibition just started this week at the Royal Exchange. Not seen it myself yet, but it looks good!

If you've got a tram ticket, the Imperial War Museum is definitely worth a trip out too, as well.

Other than that - all the above. The view from Cloud 23 in the Hilton is fantastic. And then if you're in the northern quarter, then call in at Apotheca for cocktails

Thanks for all the suggestions... Northern quarter sounds worth a visit, I'll pack my best NHS specs.

Cloud 23 had been recommended by a mate so good to see it seconded.

MOSI sounds right up my street... Less so for Mrs Dr_Death (and is her birthday).

Thanks again, and if anyone else has any other suggestions, feel free to pitch in.
