We're off to Looe in a couple of days and the long range weather forecast suggests that it is going to piss down each and every day.

Can anyone recommend any indoor attractions within a 50 mile radius suitable for a family with a 2 year old and a 4 year old?

Aquarium in plymouth is good...

Avoid the eden project. Massively overpriced greenhouse and the kids will be bored.

The monkey sanctuary is good for a laugh and the kids love it...I can't remember how much of it is indoors (a few years since I've been there). Plus point is it's only mins from Looe.

did eden in the rain last week! was good but still plenty of outside bits so take the waterproofs/wellies
and the link cafeteria between the 2 domes is reasonably priced for a meal too

Indulge yourself! at the British Cycle Museum in Camelford.

Although they are a little young, when the weather is bad, the surf is good. And wetsuits are cheap for little ones.

EDIT: Except it's not there anymore 🙁 (it was brilliant). Surf's up!

I was going to suggest 'leave' but you're not even there yet 🙁
Hope the weather works out for you.

I just got back from Cornwall about 20mins ago.
It has rained all week and been very windy.

We visited the Maritime museum in Falmouth (boring)
The Paradise wildlife park in Hayle.
Flambards amusement park.
A tin mine (boring)
St Michaels mount- not good with pushchairs.
Tintagel castle.
Lands End- rip off.

The beach was stil the favourite, even in the cold and rain. Kids dont mind, so long as they can build sandcastles.

Our kids love dairyland. If it's not school hols it will be pretty quiet too. Ie no bigger kids and they wil. Have the run of the massive soft play.

mountain biking/other cycling paths, walking. Just put on a coat & some sensible shoes.

You can always go freak spotting in Par Market or find a nice old pub & get slowly mashed

There is a telegraph museum at Porthcurno which is a lot better than it sounds. Its all about the transatlantic cables that stretched from the each around the world but it has some hands-on stuff for kids. If the weather isnt too bad, you can walk up to the Minack Theatre

The train from Looe to St Ives is quite a nice journey through the countryside and brings you out along Carbis Bay, might be worth it for a "mini-adventure" if the kids havent been on a train before. St Ives is ok, a few shops and things and porthminster beach and harbour are nice enough to walk around. just dont walk around the harbour holding food of any kind whatsoever as the seagulls are evil monsters from hell.

I must be in a different Cornwall to some of you above. Been here last 4 days and apart from some very light short showers it's been gorgeous. Currently eating croissants outside on the terrace after a walk along the beach. Yesterday was a very sunny day and I even caught the sun. Forecast light showers later tho 🙁

Carbis Bay beach is full of 'sunbathers' even when it's raining.

The English eh...?! 😕

'I've come for a holiday on the beach, and I'm damn well going to have a holiday on the beach!'

Another vote for Dairyland - whiled away a wet day there with a 3 year old. Loads to do, not all farm related!

Beach - the kids won't care about the rain as long as they can run around and get wet.
Check the local forecast as the weather will change on an hourly basis and be different on either coast

I think we got dragged to every national trust site in cornwall (and most of devon) when we were kids. Avoid if you want your kids to actually GAS about you in later life 🙂

When i was there the other wek the rain came and went quickly, I think they have micro climates compared to cambridge.

Spent a good few hours in the museum of cornwall in truro. Mrs giffer 'borrowed' a mackerel dressing up costume from the up to 7's kitbox and swam about the exhibit for a while. (it was quite quiet at that point)

oh yeah boat fishing trips can be fun, the hour long mackerel ones anyway, 5hour "deep sea" fishing trips are a bit much.

**

** that is free as I am as tight as an interference fit.

I went to paradise park at Hayle. They had a captive magpie that called everyone a bastard.

I used to live about 250 yards from Paradise Park. Those frickin' macaws and peacocks would make a right racket.

Another vote for Dairyland, although the live exhibits look mostly dead so best avoid them. But the softplay area is good.

Big steep indoor slides at Paradise Park for dads to play on.
