As I crawl through town on the sky bus to the airport it struck me that growing up in the 80s we must have been sold the idea that by 2016 these things would actually be a bus in the sky. What else should we have by now

This... or some small nuclear device that did the same thingy.

During the 70's growing up in the States, we had all sorts of made science TV programmes, things that not only entertained, but informed.

Seems quite odd that today we're only just starting to embrace it all.

Self cleaning bikes

That could probably be done using something like Ultra Every Dry:

In fact watch this (slightly insane) Japanese coverage from 6:25 and you'll see it repelling water off a bike.

you can keep your hoverboards, flying cars, robots, child-tasers and whatnot, we could actually feed everyone if we put our minds to it...

If I can pause live tv, watch box sets and catch-up tv, why can't I have the same functionality on my car radio for audio? And where's my holographic pop up display on my iphone? Dammit.

I'm surprised thats not already a common feature - within a week of having pause/rewind on my tv at home my hand was instinctively reaching out to somehow rewind the radio in the car.

I guess there is nothing stopping that from happening other than customer demand. My DAB radio at home will pause/rewind up to an hour but I very rarely ever use the feature – listening to radio is more passive than watching the TV.

A neat algorithm for STW that assesses each thread and automatically determines a winner based on accepted standards of relevance, whit, wisdom, grammar and punctuation (rather than any of the arbitrary nonsense currently used).

Some DAB radios do this. I got one for my Father-in-law so he could set it to record the Archers or pause them when someone called.

And you can catch-up on BBC radio on the iPlayer Radio: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio

Yeah, I'd back a New Teeth invention.

I know theres science out there that does allow the growth of new teeth, but it would be mighty fine if you could embed that in yer jaw, hey presto another tooth..

Kinda boring, but I thought that the boffins with 3D printers would be churning out the little plastic clips that you find on record players that hold the tonearm still when not in use. Sometimes they break and 'Sugru' just doesn't work in this instance 😳

In the 50s and 60s we were all being told that the technological revolution would mean something like a 3 day work week and 6 hour days.

Time the right technology was invented, or unions grew balls.

And where's my atomic car?
