Yep sorry this is inspired by a temu ad. I was thinking of picking up one of the many super cheap awning/tarp/flysheet things, just to create a bit of temporary roofed workspace outside since it NEVER STOPS RAINING.

(I'm in the late stages of cleaning up and derusting a car so there's a lot and I mean a LOT of wire brush grinding and paint spraying and mess making that I can't do inside but which needs at least somewhat dryness. I've got a pretty nice popup gazebo for races but I don't want to ruin it with rust dust and overspray)

I can't use a completely freestanding one, just don't have the anchor points to create the height and I'm renting so can't really create them, so I think I need poles rather than just rigging a basha with a blue tarp and ropes, I was thinking of one like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B098W4KYT1/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=APAPCN2VPKK7Z&psc=1

I reckon I could attach one side to my shed roof and have one fairly flat panel as a "roof", and then use the poles, and have the other side pulled down to give it a bit of angle, basically make a shed annex. I can tie guy lines out to stuff like fence posts, it'll be a bit of a health and safety risk for strangulation and such but I reckon it'll work.

But am I just wasting my time with cheap internet stuff? Does anyone know of a smarter way? It's got to be cheap, otherwise there's just no point. I've tried a cheap gazebo in the past but tbh they always fall down or blow to bits and even before they do they're just so noisy and rustly with teh cheap material, my neihbours are cool and don't deserve that right outside their bedroom windows. I reckon the tarp-type might work better, and probably also be quicker to get up and down

(if this sounds a little desperate, I am entering month 7 of this quick project! Started with a quick engine swap, in and out, one long weekend. But I decided just to do a couple of wee extra jobs while it was out and, well. And now everything is stopped for weather right at a point where I had some momentum and felt like it was on the closing stretch. Which it IS, but it's a long closing stretch and literally everything needs a dry day)

I got a 4x3m sunsail from amazon which only really needs to come down for heavy snow or to save the bother of watering the pots underneath. Takes a couple of mins to set it up fixed to the wall and the fence. Its not sold as waterproof but seems to be.

They won't be as good as your proper gazebo. If you don't want to ruin it build that around the car and hang some dust sheets inside it?
