moving from an oil fired combi to an unvented tank heated by solar thermal/Immersion.
At the same time moving the electric shower from electric to feed from the tank due to a 10.5kw draw being near impossible to meet from solar PV/batteries without spending silly money.
it seems i can get a thermomixer shower from pennies to many thousands ... whats a good half way house.
not in a hardwater area - not needing a rain fall head/thousands of litres/seconds or any of that nonsense.
Using a Bristan Bliss electric shower and its absolutely fine in terms of flow and showering so whats comparable in thermostatic world.
Cheers
There’s a Mira on sale for about £90 at the moment, which is where I’d start.

+1 for Mira. We’ve replaced two showers with Mira Atom mixer showers and they are loads better than what was there before. They’re like a free water pressure upgrade – loads better than the electric shower at work. They also have eco settings (which are notched so they are what you turn to unless you override them) which still provide good pressure/showering but using significantly less water.
We have an Aqualisa Midas mixer connected to our combi system. This has been totally reliable and the speed with which it adjusts the temperature when water pressure varies is excellent. Hope this helps.
Mira select flex here. So good I got another for the wet room we added. Seals and spares easily available.
Will your hot and cold both be mains pressure? I guess that's the case with an unvented hot tank. Removes any niggles with uneven pressure and pumps
Any basic mixer shower would be good.
I'd get something from a brand who's likely to be around in a few years, and buy a spare mix cartridge thing too. Other than that it doesn't really matter, our house came with a digital one that inevitably broke at 5 years old, I was able to replace the switch unit with a second hand one for £50, but it's a bunch of risk with not really any benefit other than the ability to turn on the shower and wait for it to warm up remotely
We did exactly the same (crappy electric to invented cylinder) at our other place and fitted a Mira Miniduo which has been great over the last 9 years since it's been installed.
One nice "feature"* ours does is that when you turn it on, once it get up to temperature it stops running - you just turn it up a bit more once you actually step in.
This means you can turn the shower on and then do something else without wasting water.
*I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do this but we love it!!
Mira is good - you can't go far wrong with Triton either.
When converting to the unvented, try and get the pipework miodified so that the cold supply to the house ius taken from the PRV or immediately afterwards to ensure balanced hot and cold. that will help even a cheap TMS to operate well - some have a max pressure differential that they can deal with.
other than that, i second the Mira brand.
If you're feeling impulsive then the Screwfix app is offering 20% off Mira showers today. But I think it's only for today. And only on orders placed through the app, but you can click and collect.
I made the most of a similar offer a few months back for the new shower in our extension. Easy to install and use. Has been faultless so far.
Make sure your shower tray drainage can cope with the output from unvented cylinder shower... I've just changed from a combi to an unvented and the out pressure is far greater.

City plumbing were doing the same at the weekend . discounted kit plus 15% off for ordering in the app so got 2 x FK250 panel kits for 1400 quid instead of 1900 may not be a good idea to spend more on impulse so quickly.
Grohe Grohtherm 800

No sign of that when I log on, is that for all Mira showers or just a few?
was showing 23% off the particular shower i was looking at.
On Android. If I open the app, click 3 dots in the bottom right "more", then under YOUR SCREWFIX is "Exclusive Offers & Messages" - it's the only thing in there. Looking at it now it's valid until Sunday 20th so no need to be too impulsive.

I think the 20% off is on top of that as a voucher code. I seem to remember the one I bought was down from £210 to £180 then I got the extra 25% off on top (so roughly £135).
EDIT: It was this one
Thanks. Got a 10 percent offer, but no mira specific voucher code.
Ah, maybe they do user specific offers. Because now I've bought a shower I definitely need to buy another one.
Of course...no doubt they'll send me it as soon as I buy one
as the one chap alludes to above make sure the pressure difference between teh hot and cold feeds isnt too great. we cant use a mixer shower in our place as the cold water pressure is so high it pushes teh hot back up the pipe.
i`m not a plumber so there may be a way to combat this but i just bought a dual control mixer thing.
My tank is mains pressure.
Aside the manufacturer recommends both the hot and any cold feed to mix taps or showers are taken post incoming PRV
Would recommend Grohe showers as well.
We also have a couple of Grohe showers (as well was the Mira) and they've been faultless over a period of about 15 years.
Whatever one you go for go for one that has a cartridge that is easily available and easily replaceable. Less of a issue in a soft water area but it's still the bit you want to be able to replace.
I bought a hans grohe bar mitzvah shower. Its was cheap for what it was, around 80 quid. The cartridge is now blocked due to hard water.
Nrw cartridge is 60 quid. So i bought an entry level one from work by Swirl for 32.
Screwfix App will give 10% off 1st app order, and then keep your permissions switched to on to receive your weekly app exclusive offers.
I've got two Mira Minilux showers installed. Both been excellent & no issues since installation 12 year ago. Personally I'd avoid anything installed inside the wall cavity under the tiles. As I've found out to my cost previously these can turn into a liability when a problem occurs. Mira have good spares backup from places like the shower doctor in Edinburgh. The Minilux valve can be removed using a small allen key if you ever need to replace the valve it's a 5 minute job once the water has been turned off.
