Peep Show.
I only discovered this a few years back. Id seen the odd episode but just never bothered to really *watch* it.
Its all on channel 4 to steam of course.
It's turned into a happy little obsession now. It's always guaranteed to cheer me up, it's one of a very select few comedies that I can watch over and over and still pick up on little bits I missed before. Just a look on Jez' face for a split second can be with a whole series of other comedy shows.
Just altogether incredible. The only episode I don't like is the last one as I know that's the last that they will ever make.
Anyway, "the bad thing"... even thinking about the final few seconds of that episode are making me chuckle here!

Well, if you missed that on channel 4 first time round, you presumably missed spaced. Go and give that a go.
I'm the same with It's always sunny. Gets better with each viewing.

I've watched a good chunk of that but not all of it, thanks for the reminder. 👍
Not seen it's always sunny.👍
Peep Show is a classic*. So many lines to quote even if I'm just quoting them in my head..... "She's got one. She's got one. She's definitely got one."
"is that normal pooing?"
"It's like a sauna in here" will be quoted every time the GF and I go to a sauna.
Just downloaded iplayer after fiddling with my vpn settings..... Started watching The Thick of It, found People Just Doing Nothing and This Week with Partridge.... Good fun, especially when it's storming outside.
Any other gems on the BBC worth watching?
*there's a while reddit sub dedicated to the Peep Show.

You know what, in finding that gif I posted there is an actual Dobby Club with a presence on most/all of the SM platforms.
Bloody made my day that did.😁
Ill check out that sub Reddit too, cheers.

Man Like Mobeen. Genius.
(and also on C4 if you haven't seen it - Friday Night Dinner. If only for Jim. I like to consider him the burnt out, middle aged being that Brian from Spaced became. Mark Heap is brilliant as both).
Peep Show is the work of unbridled genius! Everything about it is perfect! I think it’s my favourite ever telly. God only knows how many times I’ve watched the whole thing. I go through all the series, then go back to the start and watch them all again. It starts off wrong and just gets wronger. My favourite episodes are the stag do and wedding. Consecutive episodes that are just soooooo good
I got my (19 year old) daughter into it and she’s now equally obsessed and we annoyingly (for everyone else) quote it at each other all the time. She bought me a Superhans t-shirt for Christmas.
The beauty of it is how fully formed all the characters are. Superhans, Johnson, Dobby, Big Suze, Geoff… GEOFF!!! All just sublime

Both series of Early Doors are back on iplayer. Possesses all the same things that make Peep Show so good, mainly genius writing, fully formed characters and superb performances

I think the only comedy box sets I own are:
Spaced
Green Wing
Peep Show
Coupling
Father Ted

Need to watch the rest of Spaced. Loved Green Wing but it got a little too surreal later on? Probably just me. Not seen coupling but love Father Ted.
Peep Show is still my favourite though. I should be in bed but I'm stuck into series 2 again!
Peep Show 20th Anniversary at BFI.
The all but forgotten 15 Storeys High by Sean Lock for a slightly less dark but more surreal experience
^^ Cheers, I'll check that out.
I'm still up watching Peep Show. Eyes are feeling the burn now. I'll power through it.
Watched a bit of series one of the Detectorists last night, too.
Just seen This Country is also on there!
The episode on the canal boat with the dead dog is one of the funniest things ever in the history of the World.

Just finished that one, epic. Watching the wedding one now. Jez is soon to wet himself on command. Hans was left in the public toilet because of Hiroshima.😂
"Oh come on, he married her didn't he, leave him alone!"
Well, it was a long night but worth it. Been in tears of laughter a few times.
Absolutely joyous stuff.
I need a bit of kip now. 🫡
I have to admit when I saw the thread title the first thing that came to mind was butter .... Maybe I'm in need of a sandwich
Well, after reading and commenting on this thread, guess what I ended up doing last night? Yep... sat up very late watching Peep Shown (I'm back up to series 6 again in my never-ending Peep Show loop).

The best episode and surely the best passage of dialogue ever written...
Utter, utter genius! 😂

I've never been able to get into Peep Show. My wife loves it. We usually like the same sort of comedy, but this one just isn't my cup of tea. It's very clever, but I just can't believe it enough for it to work, which is a shame because Mitchell and Webb are very talented. Similarly, Fresh Meat wasn't great imo, and my wife wasn't that impressed either. And then you consider that Jesse Armstrong went on to write Succession, which has to be one of the greatest TV series ever.
Good to see things like People Just Do Nothing (we're watching it all again for the umpteenth time) and This Country get mentioned; some of the finest young comedic talents out there. This Country in particular is sheer genius. Both owe a huge debt of course to The Office and Gervais and Merchant. Apparently the makers of both are huge fans of them, so unsurprising their comedy follows that same pattern of discomfort and poignancy.
Other picks include Man Down; Greg Davies has a 'body made for comedy'. Aided and abetted by Roisin Conaty, who cannot be not funny, and Mike Wozniak. Brilliant. Roisin stars in Game Face, where she really shines as well. And then you have the brilliant siblings, Jamie and Natasia Demetriou; Stath Lets Flats is beyond funny. Excruciatingly painful, yet so very human and real, all at the same time. Jamie apparently shops in the same deli I do, so I live in hope of bumping into him one day. I love all the cross overs you can spot in many comedies as well; Ellie White (Kasia from Stath) and Celeste Dring (Kayleigh from This Country) appear in The Windsors, which isn't quite as brilliant as some of the other stuff but still very funny. Charlie Cooper from TC appeared in an episode of Stath. Ashley McGuire (Big Mandy from TC) appears in Man Down (alongside the actual Mark Hamill in one episode!). Jamie Demetriou was in Fleabag (again, brilliant; Phoebe Waller-Bridge is sublime) And Vics from TC appeared in Game of Thrones!
Such a great time for comedy. Things have come a long way since the days of Brush Strokes, My Family and Not Going Out.

Thats reminded me that I've not watched it for ages. Its absolute genius too. Thats going on the list for a rewatch.
If you watch Succession, once you know that its one of the guys who wrote Peep Show who's the main writer, you can hear exactly where the beautifully scripted casual put downs and retorts come from. Same DNA

Yes; it's why I mentioned Jesse Armstrong. But to me, Peep Show just doesn't drop right for me to find it funny. That clip you posted above; the joke itself is quite amusing, but the scene continues for far too long and then the moment is lost. The characters aren't 'real' and relatable enough for me. Fresh Meat was vaguely amusing at times, but also quite terrible. Let down by some terrible acting; the actor playing the 'Vod' character; how did they ever get the job? All the efforts of Jack Whitehall were wasted because of her. Knutsford and the Welsh girl were just too insipid to really get behind, so the romantic undercurrent didn't really work, which undermined the efforts at comedy. I think Armstrong is far better at stuff like Succession.
I think you're overthinking things

I'd disagree with that completely, but then we all like different stuff. I think there isn't a wasted second in that scene. Everything about the timing is perfection. Maybe it means more if you've watched everything prior to it (its series 4) and see it in the overall context of the relationship between El Dude Brothers, summed up with the line
I'm so pathetic that as soon as you ordered me to piss myself, I started the procedure. This is what you've done, you've ground down my sense of self worth over the years, I hope you're proud!
Genius!
I was going to have a power nap and push on with the series tonight but I'm feeling a little ill due to lack of sleep.
Totally worth it though. 😁
Very detailed LinkedIn profile for Corrigan here.😁
Johnson has one (and she does and she does...) you but it's not fleshed out unfortunately.
