A friend of mine just messaged me:

Last night next door came round. "We're having the fence fixed between our back gardens, but the workmen need access to your side as well. Could you please leave the back gate unbarred?"

"Of course." No more leaning fence of [here]", I thought and no chance of coming home to it completely collapsed at some point this Autumn/Winter.

This is what I've come home to:

Fortunately the first strong wind'll rip that straight out anyway and then they'll have to fix it properly.

Are your friend's neighbours the Tracey family and they are building a new runway for Thunderbird 2?

What’s on the other side of the fence, and is it big enough to get a 26 wheel in it and use it as a garden bike park

That was my little contribution to the tale. (-:

It's just bizarre isn't it. I'm assuming it's a temporary support whilst concrete is setting or some such (otherwise her landlord will have a duck fit), but even so that looks about as structural as a bag of grapes.

Yup - I am no engineer but they seem to have over-engineered something to have a lesser effect than a simple prop if indeed it is just a temporary support.

Spec said you wanted to stop the fence falling over. Solution works for me.

That solution wouldn't stop Jacob Rees-Mogg from falling over, let alone a fence panel.
