Sorry a bit of a vent of sadness really.

I work as a mechanic fixing bikes for a charity, Sunday night our bikes were rifled through and many of the better ones taken. 3 late teenagers. The funny thing is that we have a free bikes scheme and thus I can only conclude that this is purely done for kicks.

I didn't think I'd be that attached to bikes that I hadn't fixed yet (and let's be honest low level bikes at that) but I found it quite a sad state of affairs, I guess for me it's more about the total disrespect for other people's possessions. A bit shout out to our neighbours who disturbed them or they probably would have got away with more!

Anyway apologies for the moan, the sun is shining and I need to get out and ride!!☀️☀️

Stealing is dickish, stealing from charity is a whole new level of dickishness.

Hopefully they will get their comeuppance.

It happened to the bike charity I volunteer for as well. The workshop broken into and bikes and, more annoyingly, tools pinched. The bikes can be replaced by donations of other bikes (and many people on here were very kind and donated stuff when I posted about it - maybe stick up another thread?) but tools are more difficult - they need to be bought and funders tend to give grants with the requirement that it's spent on a member of staff or specific project, not tools.

What's the charity and where are you?

Same here at a non profit I worked for. Several times!

Wasn't so much what was taken it was the damage that was done in the process.

When you have looting at the top you get looting at the bottom.

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your replies, it was my first post so I struggled to find the thread again!!

Your replies have made me feel a bit better, it's just such a shitty thing to do!!

But we had some nice donations since and are getting cameras put in next week so hopefully that will help.

The charity is Just Cycle in the Scottish Borders. A small set up with 3 of us Working with some amazing volunteers!

My next post will be about cycling, promise!!

Ash

That's a royal pita. Have you approached Muirhall for funding? They've just had a round but might be open again. One of the simpler applications I've filled in.

Their application allows you to explain impact of not getting funding, in your case for tools and possibly a strong tool box to store them.
