Is Die Another Day.

Madonna. Cleese. Vanishing Vanquish. The para kite surfing CGI shit. Halle Berry. Halle Berry's car. All of it.

Colin Salmon, Judi Dench all good. Brosnan was good, too. The actual Vanquish is a lovely thing. The opening sequence, and arrival in to HK is also good.

However, I've flushed things better than this.

And yet I'm still watching!

I assume neither of you have had the pleasure of Quantum of Solace? Not just the worst bond film ever, possibly the worst film ever.

Die Another Die is truly awful.

QoS has some excuses as it was done during the screenwriters strike and Hollywood problems. It was like Fiat designed the film, Ford built it and Citroen sold it.

All of the Brosnan films were bad but Tomorrow Never Dies was awful.

I think that's overly harsh Mister P.

And QoS is so far from being the worst Bond film it doesn't even deserve a mention.

No, not even close. All of the Roger Moore Bond films are worse. And there are a great many other films far, far worse.

QoS is up the with one of the best Bonds.

Die another Day is up there with Octopussy, Moonraker and Spectre.

Anything with Roger Moore in it.

I realise CountZero has already covered this but it can't be stated too often.

This will upset some, bit I’ve only ever seen one decent bond film and that was Skyfall. The rest all blur together. Except for the New Orleans voodoo one. That one is so bad it’s verging on brilliance.

The original casino Royale. Done as a comedy with David Niven. Then die another day, then the living daylights. The ones with Moore in his 60s are all pretty embarrassing, View to a Kill and For your eyes only but Connery wasn't immune to a comeback either and Never say Never Again deserves a mention. Then and only then can you list QoS

Octopussy, Diamonds are Forever and Die Another Day are terrible. As is A View to A kill.

The Brosnan one with Robert Carlisle sucked so badly it nearly created a black hole too.

I quite like QoS but thought that Spectre was poor.

Top 5

CR
TSWLM
GF
QoS
SF

Bottom 5

O
DAD
AVTaK
The one with Robert Carlsile

Robert Carlisle wasn't in Goldeneye. It was one of the other films.

You are right though. Goldeneye is a brilliant film. One of the best.

Also... For Your Eyes Only deserves a mention on the good Bond list. If Roger had been 15 years younger or if it had been Daniel Craig or The Daltonator it would have been one of the best.

QoS is one of my favourite Bond films, opening car chase is brilliant and has been pointed out Ms Kurylenko is in it. Very underrated

Spectre went on to long, but entertaining.

Noooooo. Dr. No was the first! Things had to start somewhere and it was just early days for that kind of film. Ok, it was a bit of a departure from the book, but it was not a bad film.

I do agree 100% that the later Brosnans were really bad and, likely, the worst of the official Bond series. I disagree with the Moore-haters though. I think there were so many things to like about them, just maybe not what was intended.

Goldeneye was great. Loved some of the sets for it.

I always think of Archer* now when watching any Bond film which does undermine the premiss of the character except the David Niven one...
*Plenty of Archer on youtube or Netflix if you're unfamiliar with it 🙂

Dr No is worst imo.

coincidentally, it was on last weekend, and me and the other half settle down to watch it, both of us having fond memories of it. Frankly it's pretty poor, even if you let the all too obvious "white actors with eyes made up to make them look Chinese" racism slide, the plot is dreadful the acting is dreadful, the sexism and misogyny is dreadful, the sets are dreadful,

hasn't aged well.

Die another day has Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost. Many a day has been wasted in front of that movie. Its not the best, but no way the worst Bond film.
Quantum of Sausage and Spectre are there for me. Spectre slightly saved by Hugo Drax being a bad ass, QofS for its terrible, terrible dialogue that Craig had to help with due to the writers strike in Hollywood.
Highly recommend the smershpod podcast series for some humorous reviews and retrospective of the series.

The later Brosnan ones, all merge into one lump of formulaic blandness for me.

Not Pierce's fault at all. He had much more potential than the movies allowed him to realise IMO.

OP is probably right TBH. Laughable to suggest Dr No was worse.

A View to a Kill.

Moore
Grace Jones
France
80s "fashion"
Duran Duran
A villain in a bloody blimp
Renault 19
Possibly even a 2CV (nope, that was the previous also shitty outing)

Could anything actually be more awful*?

*granted the post Goldeneye Brosnan era had a few damn good attempts.

Though QoS is getting so much love on here I may have to revisit it to check. I remember it being very muddled but that could easily have been me.

To be fair to Fleming, the books are patchy, Live and Let Die is really really bad for racism, the Baddie "Mr Big" is just awful. The best (and pretty much the only) Bond book worth bothering with* is Moonraker. Forget the daft film that has the same name, it's completely different and is as good as Bond ever gets

*Honorable mention to "From Russia with Love"

I liked Quantum of Solace. It makes far more sense second time through, with the Wikipedia plot guide as a backup. Don't think you can say that all the Brosnam films were bad, GoldenEye is easily one of the best.

Is Die Another Day the one with the invisible car? Because that was terrible.

I simply cannot understand how anyone could think Spectre (which I think is probably the 2nd best DC Bond after Casino Royale) is worse than QoS which was a complete stinker?

Anyway, yeah Die Another Day is up there, which is a shame, because it actually starts pretty well.

For me the worst is License to Kill, I never liked Dalton as bond, generally if you ask people to list their favourite Bonds, they always forget him, even after Lazenby. License to Kill is very American, it's like Bond does A-Team.

Dishonerable mentions for:

Never Say Never Again (a 55 year old bond using a combination of a bad wig, obvious stunt doubles and two buckets of make-up to look younger)

A View to a Kill (a 59 year old bond using a combination of a bad wig, obvious stunt doubles and two buckets of make-up to look younger)

Moonraker (Bond jumps on the Star Wars bandwagon).

Live and Let Die is really really bad for racism,

Of its time - and I'd say that Dr No and any of the others with token black characters were waaay worse. Besides, with lines like "Take this honkey outside and waste him" it's quite balanced 😉

Moonraker (Bond jumps on the Star Wars bandwagon).

I like Moonraker because it is so silly. Watched it quite recently with my lad and he loved it, especially Jaws.

Moonraker deserves credit because they managed to get a Space Shuttle in orbit before NASA did.

The one with Robert Carlsile

The World Is Not Enough

My faves have been all of the Daniel Craig ones, although to be fair I'll watch pretty much any Bond film.
I thought Lazenby did well in OHMSS.

QoS is poor because of the script (or lack of) it was made during the scriptwriters strike so it needed a better ending rather than just rocking up at a hotel and blowing it up. Spectre was poor too but I quite like Skyfall

Octopussy is truly awful, there's a reason it's never on the telly anymore, Die another day is bad too I agree

I like Moonraker because it is so silly.

It is redeemed only by the 'I believe he's attempting re-entry, Sir', line. My nine-year-old self thought it would be funny to ask his parents what exactly the joke was...

It's a View to a Kill. Or never say never again. Or the living daylights.

Dr.no was just a relatively low budget beginning I believe, did better than expected so things took off after that.

As much as I love goldfinger, I suppose you could argue a film in which the hero effectively rapes someone isn't actually a good film!

They're mostly bland and boring as i've realised over the last few years when they've become regularly shown on regular tv, with some exceptions...
-All the Craig efforts (absolutely including QoS!) - the most convincing Bond by some margin.
-You Only Live Twice
-Live And Let Die
-The Spy Who Loved Me
-OHMSS
-Goldfinger
...flame away ;0)

Any of the Pierce Brosnan ones.

Whereas the Moore ones have dodgy humour in, which was often OK at the time, at least the character he played was somewhat believable, getting beaten up in fight scenes and just managing to extricate himself, etc - whereas Brosnan played it like he was some sort of invincible super-hero - and that sprinting scene - who runs like that FFS ?

A bit like the recent Dr Whos where he is now 'master of the universe' compared to the old ones like Pertwee.

Best was the recent Casino Royale but since then they have just been a waste of potential.

I don't know if most of you are discounting it because it wasn't an "official" Eon one, but I find it hard to understand why this thread isn't an OP saying "Never Say Never Again" followed by 50 posts of "+1".

Much as some of the others are pretty hokey, surely none of them are as outright terrible as that one?

Octopussy by a mile, it just ridiculous even by the standards of the Roger Moore Bonds -having said that Live and Let Die and Moonraker are okay if you take them for what they are.

None of the Bonds have an unblemished records all of them have at least one stinker -Brosnan and Moore have plenty. Both of Timothy Daltons are pretty bad

They're all a bit shit, but thats what makes them so great.

The DC ones have tried to become actual good films after the Die another Day rediculousness above, amd they managed it with casino royale, but I love them all for their cheeseyness.

All of those that didn't have Sean Connery in. Well I can't really be certain of that as Connery was the Bond of my generation and I haven't watched ALL the others. But I did recently see Skyfall which I thought was frankly appalling. Style over substance right there.

The ice surfing car chase is the worst bond scene ever

And yet that was the part of Die Another Day that the production team were SO proud of. We had "the making of...", "behind the scenes of..." and all the fascinating info about how many Astons and Jags were made specially for it. It made its way into every trailer and teaser to the extent that when the film was released, everyne had seen it all and it was just "meh, another car chase".

The whole film though is woeful, the special effects are appalling - from the tsunami surfing greenscreen to the obviously dummy soldiers in the hovercrafts, the wildly misjudged invisible car and the cliched script.

Yep, it's pretty much up there as worst Bond ever. Shame because Goldeneye was a good reboot, one of the better Bonds and you kind of thought Pierce Brosnan might get into it but he was so let down by the increasingly dreadful scripts and plots. Even he thinks Die Another Day was one of the worts Bond films!

Oi you lot, be gentle on me!

My mum was an extra when Dr No was filmed in Jamaica back in the day. I was born there soon after. Thus, I'm an extra extra 'cos I was in my mummy's tummy.

So, be nice.

In all seriousness though, as a child you surely always believe that your parent is wholly truthful don't you? Well, as I grew older I wondered about the veracity of her tales, surely they could not be wholly true?

FWIW, there were a few, notably that we went to see Dr Martin Luther King Jr. make his 'I have a dream' speech in Washington. We were living in New York by then... ...and speaking to my mum's contemporaries it seems that she did not tell fibs. Go Mum, you are (were) brilliant!
